Mechanical Maintenance Supervisor

Location: Chesterfield, VA
Pay Rate:$25.00–$30.00 per hour, based on experience
Schedule: Monday-Saturday, 12 hour shifts

  • Day Shift: 6:00 AM – 6:00 PM
  • Night Shift: 6:00 PM – 6:00 AM

Overtime: Approximately 30 hours of overtime available each week, providing excellent earning potential.

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Maintenance Supervisor to lead a team of maintenance technicians in a fast-paced food manufacturing facility in Chesterfield, VA. This position is responsible for overseeing daily maintenance operations, coordinating preventive maintenance, troubleshooting mechanical equipment, and ensuring production equipment operates safely and efficiently while maintaining compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and food safety standards.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in industrial maintenance, mechanical troubleshooting, and manufacturing leadership, along with experience supervising maintenance personnel in a production environment. The Mechanical Maintenance Supervisor plays a critical role in minimizing equipment downtime, improving reliability, and supporting continuous production.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise, coach, and develop a team of maintenance technicians on assigned shifts.
  • Plan, schedule, and oversee preventive and corrective maintenance on production equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and repair mechanical equipment to minimize downtime and maximize production efficiency.
  • Coordinate maintenance priorities with production leadership to support daily manufacturing operations.
  • Ensure all maintenance work is completed safely and in compliance with OSHA regulations, company policies, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), and food safety requirements.
  • Monitor equipment performance and implement improvements to increase reliability and reduce downtime.
  • Assist with the installation, startup, and commissioning of new manufacturing equipment.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, work orders, and equipment history using a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
  • Monitor spare parts inventory and coordinate replacement parts as needed.
  • Lead root cause analysis and implement corrective actions for recurring equipment failures.
  • Promote continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety, productivity, quality, and equipment performance.
  • Train and mentor maintenance technicians on troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, equipment operation, workplace safety, and GMP compliance.
  • Work closely with production, quality, sanitation, and engineering teams to support efficient manufacturing operations.
  • Communicate equipment status, maintenance priorities, and shift updates with leadership and production teams.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3–5 years of industrial maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Previous supervisory or maintenance leadership experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, conveyors, pumps, motors, bearings, gearboxes, hydraulics, and pneumatics.
  • Experience troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining industrial manufacturing equipment.
  • Working knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and food manufacturing regulations.
  • Ability to read blueprints, mechanical drawings, and technical manuals.
  • Experience using a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) preferred.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Willingness to work either the 6:00 AM–6:00 PM or 6:00 PM–6:00 AM rotating schedule, including overtime.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in a food manufacturing or food processing environment.
  • Knowledge of automated production equipment, conveyors, packaging machinery, and industrial mechanical systems.
  • Experience with welding, fabrication, and mechanical repairs.
  • Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing, 5S, Total Productive Maintenance (TPM), or Continuous Improvement initiatives.

Work Environment

This position is located in a food manufacturing facility in Chesterfield, VA and requires working around automated production equipment in a fast-paced production environment. The role involves standing, walking, bending, lifting, and working around moving mechanical equipment throughout a 12-hour shift while consistently following Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), sanitation requirements, and food safety procedures.
