JOB TITLE: Mechanic Support/Assistant WAGE/HOUR STATUS: Non-exempt REPORTS TO: Shop Foreman PAY GRADE: DEPT/SCHOOL: Student Transportation DAYS EMPLOYED: 240 DATE REVISED: February 2023

PRIMARY PURPOSE: Perform minor mechanical repairs and maintenance. Assist mechanics in preventative maintenance and ensure proper performance and safety of all district vehicles. Perform assigned work following established policies and procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Clear and Valid Texas CDL (class B) with Passenger (P) and school bus (S) endorsements or ability to obtain one within 3 months of employment
• Texas Education Certification for School bus drivers obtain one within 3 months of employment
• Clear criminal background check

Special knowledge /skills:

• Ability to diagnose mechanical problems and perform repairs under supervision
• Ability to operate equipment and tools invoiced in vehicle repairs
• Ability to lift heavy equipment and vehicle parts
• Ability to read and understand documents including policies and procedures manuals
• Ability to read instructions
• Ability to complete required bus driver safety training
• Ability to pass DOT alcohol and drug test and a yearly DOT physical exam
• Ability to operate a school bus

Experience: One year experience in minor vehicle repair and maintenance
