Position Summary
Employees in this job perform a variety of activities designed to service, repair and maintain pieces of County owned heavy equipment. The work is performed through the application of a body of knowledge and specific certifications that denote expertise in heavy equipment maintenance.

ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS:
Daily exposure to various automotive chemicals, vehicle fuels, lubricants and automotive equipment. Significant job hazards involved with working around construction equipment and on county roads used by the traveling public. Seasonal exposure to extreme temperatures, fumes/odors, dirt/dust, wetness and humidity. Communicates with employees and elected officials.
Work is performed both indoors and outdoors. Incumbent drives on surface streets and operates equipment on unpaved surfaces to diagnose mechanical problems; works around machinery and equipment; and risks exposure to traffic hazards, electrical currents, adverse weather conditions, temperature and noise extremes, wetness, humidity, heights, fumes, dusts, odors, solvents, grease/oil, skin irritants, toxic or caustic chemicals, vibration.
PHYSICAL DEMAND REQUIREMENTS:
HOURS / SPECIAL CONDITIONS: The position schedule is 6:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday to Thursday.
McLennan County will conduct background checks on new hires that will include a criminal background check related to convictions and deferred adjudications in the past seven years and may include credit reports, motor vehicle records, employment records, and educational attainment. A conviction or deferred adjudication is not an automatic bar to employment. Each case is considered individually.
