Overview

System One is seeking a highly capable and motivated mechanical analysis engineer for a yearlong, fully remote contract position. In this role, you will develop analysis methodologies using finite element methods and hand calculations to predict mechanical behavior of reactor core components and develop software to automate analyses. Other responsibilities include mechanical analysis of the reactor core and verification and validation of methods and software.

Responsibilities

  • Develop analysis methodologies using finite element methods and hand calculations to predict mechanical behavior of reactor core components
  • Create software using Python to automate finite element model generation for reactor core analysis
  • Perform mechanical analysis of the reactor core and develop verification and validation methods for software and analysis techniques
  • Support testing for validation of mechanical codes and methods, including test requirements, acceptance criteria, prediction, post-processing, and collaboration with test engineers
  • Analyze reactor core and core component mechanical behavior using FEA (Abaqus preferred)
  • Develop analysis methods for sodium fast reactor core mechanical behavior
  • Support testing and validation activities through documentation, test planning, and data analysis
  • Utilize strong finite element analysis and solid mechanics knowledge to produce reliable and accurate results
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering (or equivalent)
  • 3+ years of relevant working experience
  • Strong experience with finite element analysis (FEA), including nonlinear analysis (Abaqus preferred)
  • Expert understanding of finite element methods and solid mechanics (statics, dynamics, strength of materials)
  • Coding skills in Python (preferred)
  • Strong technical writing skills
  • Ability to meet aggressive schedules and produce value without waiting for assignments
  • Excellent communication skills and willingness to give and receive professional criticism
  • High degree of trust, integrity, and teamwork orientation
