Position Overview
We are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to design, develop and optimize mechanical systems and components for building and industrial projects. The ideal candidate will apply engineering principles to HVAC and piping systems, produce detailed CAD/Revit models and drawings, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver safe, efficient and buildable designs that meet project requirements, codes and schedules.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop detailed mechanical designs for HVAC, piping and related systems, from concept through construction documentation.
- Produce accurate drawings, schematics and models using AutoCAD and Revit; maintain clear, coordinated documentation.
- Perform load calculations, equipment selection, flow analysis and sizing for HVAC and piping systems.
- Coordinate design intent and drawings with architects, structural engineers, electrical engineers and contractors to ensure constructability and code compliance.
- Prepare bill of materials, equipment schedules and cost estimates to support procurement and project budgeting.
- Review shop drawings, submittals and vendor data; provide technical guidance during construction and resolve field design issues.
- Apply mechanical engineering principles and industry standards to ensure safety, energy efficiency and regulatory compliance.
- Participate in project meetings, present design solutions and incorporate stakeholder feedback into revisions.
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field; Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
- 3+ years of mechanical design experience with emphasis on HVAC and piping systems in building or industrial projects.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit for 2D drafting and 3D modeling; experience producing construction documents.
- Strong understanding of HVAC principles, fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, equipment selection and duct/pipe sizing.
- Experience with load calculations, energy efficiency, codes and standards (e.g., ASHRAE, SMACNA, ASME) and local building regulations.
- Excellent problem-solving, communication and teamwork skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
- Familiarity with cost estimating, BOM preparation and construction coordination; experience reviewing shop drawings and resolving field issues.
- Self-motivated, detail-oriented and committed to delivering high-quality, buildable mechanical designs.
