Summary

The Mechanical Design Engineer supports manufacturing operations by designing, developing, and improving products, processes, tooling, and equipment to increase efficiency, product quality, and equipment reliability.

This role is responsible for troubleshooting manufacturing challenges, creating engineering solutions, supporting new product development, and implementing continuous improvement initiatives. The Mechanical Design Engineer works closely with production, quality, planning, and customers to ensure products meet engineering specifications and quality standards while providing hands-on technical support in a manufacturing environment.

This is a full time position at Amphenol Nexus Technologies in Stamford, CT.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and implement machine design updates, process improvements, and engineering changes
  • Develop, evaluate, and improve manufacturing methods using knowledge of product design materials, tooling, production equipment, assembly methods, and quality standards
  • Collaborate with Production, Planning, Quality, and Design Engineering to improve manufacturing efficiency and product quality
  • Evaluate and recommend equipment, materials, tooling, and components to ensure compliance with engineering specifications and quality standards
  • Create, revise, and release engineering drawings and documentation through the Engineering Change process
  • Develop, maintain, and update engineering procedures, work instructions, and technical documentation
  • Design and build test fixtures for wire harness, electrical switches, and mechanical testing applications
  • Troubleshoot manufacturing and product-related issues by preforming root cause analysis and implementing corrective actions
  • Provide technical engineering support to customers, manufacturing personnel, and cross-functional teams
  • Work directly on the production floor to support manufacturing operations, resolve technical issues, and implement process improvements
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance safety, quality, productivity, and equipment reliability
  • Assist with new product development, prototype evaluation, product validation, and process improvement
  • Travel approximately 3 4 times per year for engineering meetings, customer support, supplier visits, or training

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, or related engineering discipline

  • Experience in machine design, CAD modeling, materials, manufacturing, processes, and mechanical systems preferred

  • 0-7 years of mechanical design engineering experience, preferable in a manufacturing environment

  • Experience creating and revising 3D models, engineering drawings, and bills of materials

  • Experience supporting engineering changes (ECO/ECN) and product improvements

  • Experience working with cross-functional teams including Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, and Production

  • Proficient in 3D modeling using PTC Creo; experience with SolidWorks is acceptable if accompanied by the ability to learn Creo quickly

  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office, specifically Excel and PowerPoint

  • Familiarity with general production techniques and testing methods

  • Knowledge of common materials, including steel, copper, and aluminum alloys

  • Understanding of corrosion causes and prevention methods

  • Knowledge of machining processes and the use of mills, lathes, and other shop tools

  • Familiarity with design techniques for 3D printing

  • Ability to independently identify problems and effectively offer solutions

  • Excellent in-person communication skills

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to work independently and manage project with minimal supervision

  • Collaborative team player with the ability to work cross-functionally

  • Ability to read, interpret, and create engineering drawings and technical documentation
