Title: Mechanical Design Engineer
Shift: Condensed Schedule | 9 hours per day Monday through Thursday, 4 hours on Friday
Salary: $85,000 - $95,000 per year, plus a performance-based bonus; exact compensation is dependent on experience
Mechanical Design Engineer Role:
Our client is seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer with 5+ years of hands-on experience to design, develop, and support embedded electronic systems from concept through production. This role exists to collaborate with a multidisciplinary engineering team to create mechanical designs, generate comprehensive technical documentation, and directly support manufacturing processes.
Mechanical Design Engineer Responsibilities:
Collaborate with a team of engineers to support new product development, improve existing products, and address customer orders requiring revisions to current designs
Create and maintain comprehensive engineering documentation, including part, assembly, and tooling drawings
Author clear work instructions, manufacturing documentation, and design specifications for test fixtures and validation tools
Build and maintain accurate Bills of Materials (BOMs) and process formal Engineering Change Requests (ECRs)
Develop detailed cost estimates and commercial quotations for new products and design changes
Support the Production Manager and Manufacturing Engineers with technical needs to ensure efficient and repeatable manufacturing processes
Interface with the Engineering Manager to support customer requirements and contribute to business development and technical sales activities
Select appropriate materials and manufacturing processes to ensure product quality, performance, cost-effectiveness, and manufacturability
Conduct engineering analysis and qualification testing to identify weaknesses, failures, and improvement opportunities in prototypes and production products
Utilize strong problem-solving, analytical, and troubleshooting skills in both lab and production environments
Mechanical Design Engineer Reporting Relationships:
The Mechanical Design Engineer reports directly to the Engineering Manager. This position operates as a key technical contributor, working cross-functionally with engineering, production, and quality teams.
About You:
Possess a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline (or equivalent experience)
Hold a minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience designing mechanical components and assemblies for electronic products
Demonstrate strong functional experience with cable assemblies, connectors, and electromechanical products
Maintain high proficiency with 3D CAD software, with SolidWorks preferred
Display strong knowledge of mechanical drawings and formal design documentation standards
Exhibit familiarity with common manufacturing processes such as machining, injection molding, and assembly
Maintain experience working in a regulated environment, such as ISO 9001, ISO 13485, FDA, or similar quality systems
Demonstrate a solid knowledge of test and validation methods for mechanical and electromechanical systems
Exhibit excellent written and verbal communication skills for technical documentation and cross-team collaboration
Maintain the reliable ability to commute daily for an in-person schedule at the facility in Newbury, OH 44065
