Mechanical Design Engineer – Automation SystemsPosition OverviewWe are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to support the development of automated manufacturing systems. This individual will be responsible for designing custom mechanical solutions, including work cells, fixtures, tooling, and machine structures used in robotic and industrial automation applications. The ideal candidate enjoys solving complex design challenges and collaborating with cross-functional engineering teams from concept through implementation.Key ResponsibilitiesDesign and develop custom automation equipment, machine layouts, and robotic work cells.Create mechanical assemblies, fixtures, tooling, and part-holding solutions that optimize manufacturing performance.Produce detailed 3D models, engineering drawings, and fabrication documentation using CAD software.Design guarding, structural components, dust collection interfaces, and other supporting equipment that meet safety and operational requirements.Participate in prototype development, testing, and design validation activities.Collaborate with manufacturing, controls, suppliers, and fabrication partners to ensure designs are practical, manufacturable, and cost-effective.Review designs for strength, durability, serviceability, and ease of installation.Support continuous improvement efforts by refining existing equipment and mechanical designs.QualificationsBachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical discipline (or equivalent practical experience).Minimum of three years of experience designing mechanical equipment or industrial automation systems.Proficiency with 3D CAD software such as SolidWorks, Inventor, Creo, or similar platforms.Strong understanding of mechanical design principles, GD&T, tolerancing, materials, and manufacturing processes.Experience creating detailed production drawings and BOMs.Comfortable working in a hands-on environment, supporting assembly, troubleshooting, and prototype development.Preferred ExperienceBackground in robotics, automated equipment, or manufacturing systems.Familiarity with machining, grinding, polishing, or other material removal processes.Understanding of machine safety practices, guarding requirements, and applicable industrial safety standards.Experience designing equipment intended for high-volume manufacturing environments.What You'll DeliverReliable and scalable mechanical designs that perform consistently in production.Efficient automation solutions that are straightforward to build, install, and maintain.Well-engineered tooling and fixtures that improve product quality, repeatability, and manufacturing throughput.Collaborative support throughout the design, build, testing, and deployment phases of automation projects.#J-18808-Ljbffr
