MECHANICAL DESIGN ENGINEER for equipment automation

GNR has been retained to identify an innovative MECHANICAL DESIGN ENGINEER with a passion in engineering first-generation, innovative precision machine systems and solutions.   

You’ll be part of a small group white-boarding and creating solutions that don’t exist, the end application could serve different purposes; high precision assembly, metrology instrumentation, or lab equipment.

ROLE PURPOSE:

Focus will be the development of robust precision machine systems that provide significant competitive advantage to the businesses, and / or enable new products and product lines (prototype, and production capable machines).

Key Responsibilities: 

• Interface with the Research, Development, Engineering and Manufacturing teams that are involved in the innovation and manufacture of new products and machine systems
• Design and analysis of first generation /next generation products, machines, machine fixturing and machine components from a robustness of design perspective.
• Work with other project team members on solving difficult mechanical engineering related problems.
• Develop deep understanding of process requirements to influence equipment design functionality & performance.
• Integrate commercially available technologies and processes and effectively leverage external machine builders and system integrators.
• Utilize internal facilities and equipment to develop proof of concept prototypes. 
• Work closely with multidisciplinary teams controls & process engineers.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

• Able to work in a small collaborative team across various disciplines to architect and design electro-mechanical / robotics / motion control systems.
• Experience with material selection, electro-mechanics, and different manufacturing processes – machining, additive, microfabrication etc.
• Strong analytical experience, part design & systems, tight tolerance and modeling.
• Ensure performance & functionality before transitioning your system to operation / manufacturing center
• Fluent with 3D CAD tools: SolidWorks, CATIA, Inventor, Autodesk
• 5-20 years of experience with Mechanical Design with BS/MS/PhD in Mechanical, Mechatronics, Physics or Engineering
• Experience with any of the following types of equipment design: metrology, semiconductor, lab/medical, precision mechanical designs, automation/visual inspection systems, surgical robotics
• US Citizen / Perm Resident
