Overview

Snap-on Diagnostics, a division of Snap-on Inc., is looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer II as part of our Platform Development Engineering design team in Lincolnshire, IL, USA. Our team is focused on product design and development of automotive diagnostic test equipment for worldwide automotive service markets.

Position Description:

Candidate will be a senior level contributor and design mechanical components and assemblies for automotive diagnostic test equipment and accessories. Candidate will participate in the design process with the engineering development team to develop new products and manufacturing process initiatives according to the project schedule. Additionally, the candidate will support sustaining new and existing products in manufacturing through communication with engineering and manufacturing teams using Engineering Change Orders and other industry standard processes.

Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor's degree in engineering or equivalent work experience

Experience: Extensive technical knowledge and a minimum of 7 years of related industry experience. Experience in Pro/E, Creo, and other CAD design tools required.

Responsibilities:

Participate in design with project team (industrial design, mechanical design, and electronic design engineers) in initial design concepts followed by detailed mechanical design and documentation of mechanical components and assemblies. Work with internal and external suppliers to support design, testing, and ECO release process.

Participate in NPI-New Product Introduction process from mechanical design of prototype parts and assemblies to support initial development, through final design and release for manufacturing launch, followed by product sustaining phase.

Key Competencies:

Experience with design of injection molded plastic components and housings for electronic systems to meet product functional requirements. Experience with DFM-Design For Manufacturing/Manufacturability.

Experience with design of metal components including springs and sheet metal components.

Experience in creating and reading mechanical drawings, mechanical tolerance stack up analysis, and other related industry standard practices.

Experience in using Microsoft Office products including Excel, Word, Project, and Outlook.

Familiar with UL, CSA, and CE product safety mechanical design standards such as UL201, UL62368.

Excellent written and verbal communication, time management, and interpersonal skills are required for this role.
