Job Description:
The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and improving HVAC systems and components to meet performance, quality, and cost objectives. This role supports product development, testing, and manufacturing processes through technical analysis, modeling, and collaboration with cross-functional teams. The engineer plays a key role in ensuring AAON's products meet industry standards and customers' expectations. This position contributes to innovation, efficiency, and continuous improvement across the organization.
The Mechanical Engineer works closely with engineering, production, and quality teams to develop and refine HVAC products and systems. This includes performing calculations, creating technical drawings, and supporting testing and validation efforts.
Primary duties may include, but are not limited to:
- Designs and develops HVAC components and systems to meet performance and regulatory requirements.
- Conducts engineering analysis, including thermal, structural, and airflow calculations.
- Creates and reviews technical drawings, specifications, and documentation.
- Collaborates with manufacturing and quality teams to ensure design feasibility and product reliability.
- Supports prototype development, testing, and validation of new products.
- Investigates and resolves product issues through root cause analysis and corrective actions.
- Participates in cost-reduction and process improvement initiatives.
- Communicates technical information clearly across departments and with external partners.
- Maintains up-to-date knowledge of industry standards, materials, and technologies.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Create BOMs for any existing or new products.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Requires a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related discipline; 2+ years of experience in product design, development, or manufacturing engineering; or any combination of education and experience, which would provide an equivalent background.
- Experience in HVAC or industrial equipment design preferred.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or EIT certification preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Strong understanding of mechanical design principles and thermodynamics.
- Proficiency in interpreting technical drawings and engineering documentation.
- Ability to perform engineering calculations and simulations.
- Familiarity with HVAC systems, components, and industry standards.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Strong communication and collaboration abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and engineering tools.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
Essential Mental and Physical Functions:
This role requires technical focus, attention to detail, and the ability to work in both office and manufacturing environments. The Mechanical Engineer must be able to analyze data, develop solutions, and communicate effectively with cross-functional teams.

Work Environment:
Mechanical Engineers at AAON operate in a hybrid office and manufacturing environment, requiring regular interaction with cross-functional teams and occasional visits to production areas.
- Perform all tasks on-site.
- Work in a climate-controlled office with periodic exposure to factory conditions.
- Exposure to noise, dust, and temperature fluctuations during plant visits.
- Regular collaboration with engineering, production, and quality teams.
- Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as required when in manufacturing areas.
- This role is classified as a Safety Sensitive Position, requiring heightened awareness and adherence to all safety protocols to ensure a secure work environment.
