Mechanical Design Engineer (New Product Development) STS Technical Services is hiring a Mechanical Design Engineer in Milwaukee, Wisconsin .This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced mechanical engineer to support a growing manufacturing operation focused on new product development and product redesign. In this role, you will lead mechanical design initiatives from concept through production while ensuring designs are manufacturable, cost effective, and fully documented.If you have strong CAD experience, understand manufacturing processes, and thrive in a fast paced engineering environment, this opportunity offers the chance to make a meaningful impact.Position Summary The Mechanical Design Engineer will focus on new product development and continuous improvement of existing products. This role requires delivering robust mechanical designs while maintaining accurate engineering documentation, managing product data, and supporting cross functional collaboration with manufacturing, supply chain, and operations teams.Success in this position is measured by design quality, execution reliability, cost impact, and effective documentation of engineering systems.Core Responsibilities New Product Development Lead mechanical design from concept through production releaseDevelop complete and accurate 3D models, drawings, and Bills of Materials (BOMs)Perform required engineering analyses and participate in structured design reviewsSupport prototype builds, testing, and validationExecute cost reduction and value engineering initiativesImprove reliability, manufacturability, and serviceability of existing productsProcess Engineering Change Notices (ECNs) in accordance with change control proceduresSupport root cause analysis and corrective actionsProduct Data Management (PDM)Maintain accurate CAD models, drawings, and revision historyEnsure proper file structure, naming conventions, and version controlRelease documentation through formal workflowsMaintain complete and accurate BOM structuresEnsure BOMs transferred to ERP are accurate and aligned with released drawingsSupport part number creation and configuration accuracyCollaborate with Supply Chain and Operations to resolve BOM discrepanciesEnsure engineering changes are properly reflected in ERP before production implementationEngineering Quality & ComplianceEnsure designs meet performance requirements and applicable standardsApply GD&T and engineering best practices consistentlyMaintain full compliance with internal design control proceduresAdditional Responsibilities & Accountability Design for Manufacturing & Assembly (DFM/DFA)Proactively design for efficient manufacturing, assembly, and serviceabilityEngage manufacturing teams early to validate feasibility and reduce downstream issuesMinimize custom components when standard solutions are viableIdentify technical risks early in the design cycleConduct DFMEA or structured risk reviews when appropriatePropose mitigation plans before issues impact project schedules or costProduct Lifecycle SupportSupport production ramp up and pilot buildsProvide technical assistance for field issues when requiredIdentify opportunities for design standardization and modularityImprove internal engineering processes where inefficiencies are identifiedStay current on relevant materials, manufacturing methods, and engineering toolsProfessional Conduct & OwnershipTake responsibility for design outcomes, both positive and negativeCommunicate clearly and professionally across departmentsManage time and priorities without constant oversightAbout STS Technical Services STS Technical Services is a Top 100 Staffing Firm that partners with some of the largest names in aerospace, manufacturing, defense, and industrial production.
