Mechanical Design Engineer (T)

Position Title Mechanical Design Engineer

Job Purpose

Designs and analyzes mechanical systems, equipment and packaging. Conducts feasibility studies and testing on new and modified designs. Directs support personnel in the preparation of detailed design, design testing and prototype fabrication. Provides design information to drafting for packaging documentation.

Nature of Duties/Responsibilities

• Design planning
• Innovative mechanical and optical design
• Rapid prototyping of electro-mechanical systems
• Developing test plans for design validation
• Testing systems and subsystems for design validation
• Documenting design with 2D drawings as well as supporting documentation
• Technical communication with internal and external customers

Education and Experience

• BS degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited university
• 1 - 2 years experience in product design or internship/cooperative education experience in product design is highly desirable.
• Experience in the design of electro-mechanical systems using SolidWorks, PTC Creo, or similar 3D solid modeling CAD software. Experience with the design of optical systems and fiber optics is desired
• Experience in 2D drawing generation from solid models is required. Experience in interpreting GD&T and designing using GD&T is preferred
• Experience with Finite Element Analysis (FEA) for both structural analysis and vibration analysis using FEMAP and NASTRAN or other similar simulation software is desired
• Thermal and Computational Fluid Dynamics experience using FloEFD or other similar simulation software is desired
• Experience in rapid prototyping utilizing 3D printers and general fabrication is desired
