Job Description

The Mechanical Design Engineer will support essential business processes by providing cost-effective product design support. This role involves designing and documenting products during their design and development phases, leading design and development activities, and ensuring cross-functional involvement in strict adherence to the development process. Additionally, the engineer will partner in identifying new suppliers and support procurement in managing the existing supply base, with a focus on understanding current automotive accessory trends.

Responsibilities

• Design and document products during design and development phases.
• Own design and development activities.
• Drive cross-functional involvement in the development process.
• Partner in identifying new suppliers and drive supplier development.
• Support procurement in managing the existing supply base.
• Understand current automotive accessory trends.
• Produce engineering designs and drawings adhering to applicable standards.
• Maintain proficiency with drawing standards, document, and configuration control methods.
• Ensure adherence to accessory product expectations.
• Facilitate readiness for manufacturing and installation of accessories.
• Participate in model year carry-over validation activities.
• Support accessory product quality problem-solving efforts.
• Engage in Field Quality Plan development for new accessories.
• Review warranty and field performance indicators.
• Contribute to the continual improvement of development and launch processes.
• Determine the direction of the accessory portfolio.
• Handle consumer and customer data responsibly.

Essential Skills

• Experience in R&D and full life cycle product development.
• Experience in new product development.
• Experience as a Mechanical Engineer in product design.
• Proficiency in CREO or Solidworks with 5+ years of experience.
• Proficiency in CAD, R&D, prototyping, and customer-facing roles.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Automotive or aerospace experience is advantageous.
• Experience with creo parametric, windchill, automotive, mechanical design, new product development, sheet metal, GD&T, CATIA, and CATIA design.

Work Environment

This is an onsite position where the engineer will work at a desk and occasionally visit the shop floor to observe sample production and fit checks on vehicles. Work hours are flexible with core hours from 9 am to 4 pm

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Tomball, TX.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $45.00 - $50.00/hr.
