System One is seeking a Mechanical Designer to support the design and development of advanced nuclear reactor technology. This position offers the opportunity to work alongside multidisciplinary engineering teams developing next-generation energy systems.
Responsibilities
Develop 3D CAD models and detailed engineering drawings using SolidWorks.
Design mechanical and structural components, test fixtures, flow loops, rigs, and sub-scale test articles.
Create fabrication and assembly drawings in accordance with ASME standards.
Perform tolerance stack-up analyses and apply GD&T per ASME Y14.5.
Support structural, thermal, neutronic, radiological, and safety analyses through CAD model development.
Conduct design trade studies and recommend optimal engineering solutions.
Maintain configuration control of models and drawings using PDM/PLM systems.
Participate in design reviews and collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, and testing teams.
Prepare technical documentation, presentations, and engineering reports.
Review drawings for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with engineering standards.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
Minimum 7 years of CAD design experience with strong proficiency in SolidWorks.
At least 3 years of relevant mechanical design experience.
Strong understanding of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) per ASME Y14.5.
Experience creating fabrication drawings and applying Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) principles.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Experience with PDM/PLM systems preferred.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working in the nuclear industry or another highly regulated engineering environment.
Knowledge of ASME NQA-1, ISO 9001, or similar quality standards.
Experience coordinating with suppliers and subcontractors.
Familiarity with reactor components, nuclear equipment, or advanced energy technologies.
