Must have Skill Set: 5–7 years of piping design/plant layout experience, proficiency in AutoCAD (3D), and heavy industrial environment experience (e.g., refinery, power plant, chemical)
Overview
The Mechanical Designer is responsible for the mechanical design portions of client projects, with a strong focus on the design of piping and mechanical layouts of components. This mid-level role requires an individual who can successfully navigate heavy industrial environments such as oil refineries, steel manufacturing facilities, power plants, or chemical industries. The ideal candidate will seamlessly handle assignments within scope, schedule, and budget constraints while working closely with the Engineering Lead and collaborating across multiple disciplines
Job Duties
Perform design and drafting assignments, including layouts of complex vessels, piping, and foundations using AutoCAD drawing techniques per project requirements
Conduct field visits when necessary and utilize familiarity with P&IDs
Initiate 3D model designs and actively participate in all review meetings
Provide design computations, isometrics, plans, sketches, and bills of materials when applicable
Provide necessary information for inter-discipline coordination and participate in project meetings
Review design drawings for quality and accuracy
Develop and maintain department standard details, procedures, notes, and project drawing lists
Qualifications
High School Diploma or Associate’s Degree
5 to 7 years of experience working in piping design and plant layout within a heavy industrial environment
Strong knowledge of 3D AutoCAD software, Cloud Scanning Software, and Solidworks
Knowledge of multi-discipline project design execution, construction methods, and relevant industry codes.
Ability to translate field and design sketches into detailed finished construction documents
Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate with the project team
Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize work, juggle multiple projects at a time, and set priorities
