Title: Mechanical Designer (Industrial)
Location: Remote
Hire Type: Contract to Hire
Salary: $35–$60/hr (depending on experience/location)

Sterling Engineering is looking for a Mechanical Designer (Industrial). This opportunity is with a leading organization supporting large-scale industrial and data center projects.

Job Duties:
  • Utilize SmartPlant 3D or similar design software to create 3D equipment models based on equipment drawings
  • Perform early-stage project design work
  • Develop and maintain 3D models for mechanical systems and piping
  • Create and interpret P&IDs, schematics, and detailed design drawings
  • Route piping within 3D design software and support piping layout development
  • Support multiple projects as needed
Qualifications:
  • Minimum 4 years of mechanical design experience, including 3D modeling and design documentation
  • Strong knowledge of piping systems and piping support design
  • Experience with 3D piping design and routing required
  • Experience with mechanical systems for data centers (chilled water systems, CRAH units, CDUs) highly preferred
  • Experience drafting P&IDs, schematics, and related drawings
  • Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in CAD or related field preferred with 4+ years of experience
  • High School diploma or GED with 8+ years of relevant experience considered
  • Proficiency in SmartPlant 3D preferred; experience with AutoCAD and MicroStation is a plus
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams)
  • Ability to work onsite if located near an office or fully remote
