Job Description

In the Drafter role, you will apply fundamental design, drafting, technical illustration, graphic design, animation, and virtual visualization concepts, practices, and procedures in accordance with prevailing military, industrial, and corporate standards.
 
Day to day includes but is not limited to:

  • Develop, review, and update schematics, and engineering drawings using computer-aided design software to depict equipment, and systems.
  • Create/revise detail and assembly drawings from conceptual layouts and sketches in accordance with established drafting standards using 2D/3D CAD software.
  • Perform other drafting duties such as preparing lists of material.
  • Must be able to work from the verbal and written directions of engineering and senior drafting personnel.
  • May be required to research projects independently or acquire subject knowledge by consulting with product developers and applying knowledge of the latest drafting/design technology.

Required Combination of Knowledge and Skill

  • Associates degree from an accredited college or university in design and drafting technology or a related mechanical, facility or electrical design field and a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience; or
  • Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in design and drafting technology or a related mechanical, facility or electrical design field and a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with Creo 3D modeling techniques and software, or 2D drawing techniques and Autodesk software.  
  • Demonstrated knowledge of applicable ASME Standards including but not limited to ASME Y14.100 and ASME Y14.41.
  • Current or previous qualification in ASME Y14.5 Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing Professional (GDTP) Senior level certification.
  • Knowledge of Model-Based Design standards.
  • Proficient in using Microsoft Office software.
  • Experience working in a project team environment to resolve issues and improve processes.
  • Effective written and oral communication, planning, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills, including across organizations, ability to work on multiple initiatives concurrently, self-motivated, ability to convey ideas in a concise and clear manner, and demonstrated leadership experience.

Pay Range

$78,700.00 - $120,500.00 annually
Salary information provided is a general guideline only. Annual salary is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.

The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is operated for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) by Fluor Marine Propulsion, LLC (FMP), a wholly owned subsidiary of Fluor Corporation. FMP employees also have an established presence at numerous shipyards and vendor locations. For nearly 70 years, the Naval Nuclear Laboratory has developed advanced nuclear propulsion technology, provided technical support, and trained world-class nuclear operators to ensure the safe and reliable operation of our nation's submarine and aircraft carrier Fleets. The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is a national asset solely dedicated to the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program.
