Position Summary
TreadStone Technologies is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to support the design, development, testing, and commercialization of equipment and components used in our advanced coating and electrochemical technology programs.
This position combines mechanical engineering and design with hands-on work in an advanced materials and manufacturing environment. The ideal candidate will have strong CAD and mechanical design experience along with an understanding of electrochemistry, materials, manufacturing processes, or electrochemical systems.
The engineer will work closely with technical leadership, manufacturing, and R&D to take concepts from initial design through prototyping, testing, modification, and production implementation.
Responsibilities
- Design mechanical components, assemblies, fixtures, tooling, and production equipment
- Develop detailed 3D CAD models, assemblies, and engineering drawings
- Translate engineering concepts and process requirements into manufacturable mechanical designs
- Design and modify fixtures and tooling used in coating, testing, fabrication, and production processes
- Support prototype development, assembly, testing, and design validation
- Perform engineering calculations, tolerance analysis, and design reviews
- Work with manufacturing personnel to troubleshoot equipment and process-related mechanical issues
- Develop design improvements that increase reliability, repeatability, quality, and manufacturing efficiency
- Select appropriate materials, components, hardware, and manufacturing methods
- Create and maintain drawings, specifications, bills of materials, and engineering documentation
- Support testing and development of components used in electrochemical systems
- Collaborate with scientists and engineers working with coatings, metals, electrochemistry, and advanced materials
- Support equipment installation, commissioning, modification, and continuous improvement
- Work with vendors and fabricators to source and manufacture custom components
- Participate in root-cause analysis and resolution of technical and quality issues
- Support the transition of R&D processes and equipment into scalable manufacturing
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline
- Professional experience in mechanical engineering, mechanical design, product development, equipment design, or a related role
- Strong proficiency with 3D CAD software
- Experience producing detailed engineering drawings and manufacturing documentation
- Strong understanding of mechanical design principles, materials, tolerances, and manufacturing processes
- Ability to design components and assemblies with manufacturability and reliability in mind
- Hands-on mechanical aptitude and problem-solving ability
- Ability to work effectively across engineering, R&D, manufacturing, and quality functions
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge or experience in electrochemistry or electrochemical systems
- Experience with fuel cells, electrolyzers, batteries, energy storage, or related technologies
- Experience with metals, specialty coatings, surface treatments, or materials science
- Experience designing manufacturing equipment, fixtures, tooling, or test systems
- Experience in prototype development and transitioning designs into production
- Familiarity with quality systems and engineering change/document-control processes
- Experience working in an R&D or advanced manufacturing environment
