They specify, review, and oversee the design of mechanical equipment and piping systems, ensuring they fulfill their intended process design safely, economically, and reliably. Mechanical engineers play a critical role in coordinating and communicating with other engineering disciplines, designers, supply chain personnel, vendors, and clients. Mechanical engineers must be able to ask timely and relevant questions along with reading, interpreting, and using good judgment with regards to identification and applicability of industry standards and codes. Physics, thermodynamics, materials science, fluid mechanics, statics, and dynamics are critical knowledge bases mechanical engineers must utilize with strong analytical skills to inform practical and timely decisions regarding mechanical equipment design and selection.Job ResponsibilitiesLead a discipline engineering team on projects with minimal guidance; supervise design personnel and other staff specialists.Review and check designs; assist in the development of design guides, guide specifications and design control procedures.Serve as the lead Engineer or technical expert on medium projects; plan and manage the engineering activities on a project.Maintain the schedule and budget of assigned projects.Conduct engineering tasks while supervising work for a small team of engineers assigned to a project.Develop specifications and data sheets for mechanical and packaged equipment.Generate and maintain equipment and piping specialty item lists.Identify, utilize, and interpret applicable industry codes and standards.Develop material requisitions and technical bid evaluations.Take ownership of multidisciplinary squad check reviews of vendor drawings and data for conformance to codes and specifications.Review and contribute equipment information on flow diagrams and P&IDs.Identify suitable materials of construction and compatibility requirements.Perform engineering calculations including piping hoop stress, NPSHA, flow velocity, pressure, etc.Provide mechanical engineering data and input to support development of other disciplines' deliverables.Facilitate coordination meetings with equipment vendors.Utilize web-based and vendor software for preliminary equipment sizing and selection.Develop budgetary cost and delivery basis for equipment.Develop mechanical engineering budget hour estimates and assumptions for proposals.Participate in project and client meetings including facilitating design reviews.Interface with other disciplines, vendors, clients and contractors.Prepare specifications detailing performance requirements, specific components, design requirements, applicable design codes, and vendor drawing requirements.Visit vendor facilities and jobsites as necessary.Prepare inquiry and purchase requisitions, bid tabulations on simple purchases, and review vendor drawings for compliance with specifications.Demonstrate a focus on safe, efficient, and cost-effective design.QualificationsRequired: ABET accredited institution, BS in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent engineering degree or higher.EIT certification required.PE license desired.Minimum 7-10 years of experience in engineering.Experience in the Oil and Gas industry highly recommended.Excellent written and verbal communication skills.Ability to work collaboratively with others to meet shared objectives.Proficient in Microsoft office—especially Microsoft Excel.Bluebeam experience is a plus.Ability to work in a fast‑paced project environment and manage multiple tasks.Target Salary Range$100,000 to $120,000.
