Mechanical Engineer

The duties of the Mechanical Engineer position will include:

• Research, develop, design, test and implement the installation of the mechanical system for welding and repair welding of line pipe.

• Apply knowledge of Submerged Arc, Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW), Plasma Arc, Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG) and Heli Arc Welding to maintain and improve the welding functions in both fabrication of pipe and maintenance of plant facilities.

• Direct engineering and maintenance personnel in the mechanical functions associated with the manufacturing of pipe and the maintenance of the plant and equipment.

• Develop procedures to provide efficient and economical distribution of mechanical power and provides management with guidance as to power factors, usage and modernization of mechanical equipment.

• Evaluate operational systems and recommends design modifications to eliminate cause of malfunctions or changes in the system requirements.

• Provide guidance to mechanical technicians in repair, installation and maintenance of mechanical and hydraulic components, equipment, systems, instruments and communications.

• Use CAD/CAM knowledge to provide drawings for maintenance and operating personnel.

• Direct the installation of mechanical equipment and provides vendors and suppliers of equipment with technical data for the development of improved operation controls and equipment.

• Monitor hydraulic, pneumatic and mechanical equipment for safe and efficient operation and recommend changes to provide continuous improvement in equipment for maximum plant efficiency.

We believe that the job duties are complex and specialized and that the knowledge associated with performance of these duties is generally associated with attainment of at least a bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.

With 35 years of experience in pipe manufacturing, the P.R. Jindal Group has set up a state-of-the-art HFERW mill through its venture, Jindal Pipe USA Inc. Located in Baytown, TX, the mill has an installed capacity of 300,000 tons per year with a size range of 8.625′′ to 26′′ OD. This is the first mill in the United States to produce 26′′ OD HFERW pipe.

Customers include large gas transmission companies, midstream companies, structural contractors, and pipe distributors throughout North America.

JPU is the only pipe mill capable of manufacturing 0.688′′ wall thickness in the ERW process, and operates a state-of-the-art KML Sensors pipe laser measurement system to ensure industry-leading dimensional accuracy on every length we ship.
