Position Overview - Dallas/Ft. Worth (onsite)
We are seeking a highly capable Mechanical Engineer to support the development of automated mobile heavy equipment designed to remove humans from dull, dirty, and dangerous industrial tasks. This role involves designing, drafting, and supporting innovative mechanical systems that improve safety, increase operational efficiency, and perform reliably in demanding environments.
Key Responsibilities- Create and manage CAD models and drawings, including importing, simplifying, and accurately documenting designs.
- Develop CAD models of existing hardware to support system integration and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Collaborate with product owners to define requirements and ensure designs meet performance, safety, and usability standards.
- Perform Onshape modeling, organizing 3D sheet metal parts and complex multi-part assemblies.
- Produce detailed 2D fabrication drawings (PDF) using proper GD&T (ASME Y14.5), welding symbols, annotations, and bend details.
- Optimize sheet metal designs and generate flat patterns for fabrication.
- Manage large assemblies and generate accurate Bills of Materials (BOMs), including sub-assemblies, hardware, buyout parts, and electrical revision updates.
- Maintain documentation control by revising and updating drawings and assemblies based on Engineering Change Requests (ECRs).
- Review drawings and assemblies with strong attention to detail, identifying errors, asking clarifying questions, and ensuring final BOM accuracy.
- Provide technical input for the creation of assembly instructions, operator manuals, and maintenance guides.
Mandatory Qualifications & Skills- Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field (Masters degree is a plus).
- 14 years of experience in robotics, automotive, or related industries (internships accepted).
- Solid experience in mechanical design, automation, robotics, or hardware system development.
- Proficiency with CAD software (Onshape strongly preferred; SolidWorks, Creo, or similar acceptable).
- Strong understanding of mechanical systems, materials, and manufacturing processes.
- Working knowledge of GD&T and welding processes.
- Hands-on experience with prototyping, testing, or hardware builds is preferred.
- Basic understanding of pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams.
- Demonstrated interest in automation, robotics, or safety-critical systems is a plus.
