    Job Description

    About LuminX

    \n

Warehouses still run on clipboards and barcode guns. Every day, pallets move through loading docks where people manually scan labels, count cases, and verify shipments—and when something goes wrong, it may not be discovered until after the shipment has left.

    \n

    \n

LuminX is changing that. We are building the Visual AI Layer for the loading dock: compact AI camera systems that read barcodes, labels, case counts, and damage automatically as pallets move at forklift speed. Our systems operate on-device and in real time, giving warehouse teams evidence of exactly what crossed each door without adding another step to their workflow.

    \n

    \n

We are already deploying with customers in automotive and cold storage and are growing quickly. LuminX has raised $5.5 million in seed funding from investors including 1Sharpe, GTMFund, 9Yards, Chingona Ventures, and the Bond Fund. Our team includes people who have built AI, robotics, and industrial systems at Amazon Robotics, Tesla, Nvidia, Waymo, and Voxel.

    \n

    \n

    The Role

    \n

We are hiring a hands-on Mechanical Engineer to own the physical deployment and continuous improvement of LuminX systems in customer warehouses.

    \n

    \n

You will plan and lead installations of our camera and edge-compute units, solve the problems that only appear in real operating environments, and turn what you learn in the field into better hardware and more repeatable deployment processes.

    \n

    \n

This is not a desk-only CAD role, and it is not a traditional field-service position. One week, you may be designing a new mounting system, enclosure, or cable-routing solution. The next, you may be at a customer facility installing hardware, aligning cameras, coordinating with the customer’s facilities and IT teams, and troubleshooting a system until it works reliably.

    \n

    \n

You will serve as the on-site technical lead for deployments and as a critical link between our customers and the LuminX engineering team. You should be as comfortable working in CAD as you are using tools on a warehouse floor.

    \n

    \n

    What You'll Do

    \n
    • \n
    • Plan and lead customer deployments from initial site survey through installation, commissioning, testing, and handoff.
    • \n
    • Develop installation layouts, bills of materials, equipment lists, deployment schedules, and site-readiness requirements.
    • \n
    • Install, position, align, and validate LuminX camera and edge-compute units at warehouse dock doors and other operational areas.
    • \n
    • Verify camera coverage, lighting, mechanical stability, cable routing, power, networking, and overall system performance.
    • \n
    • Design and iterate mounts, brackets, enclosures, fixtures, protective components, and cable-management systems.
    • \n
    • Use CAD, rapid prototyping, and hands-on fabrication to move quickly from a field problem to a working solution.
    • \n
    • Troubleshoot issues across mechanical, electrical, networking, environmental, and hardware-software boundaries.
    • \n
    • Coordinate on-site with customer operations, facilities, IT teams, electricians, contractors, and other installation partners.
    • \n
    • Build deployment kits, installation checklists, acceptance tests, service procedures, spare-parts plans, and technical documentation.
    • \n
    • Support hardware assembly, bring-up, reliability testing, and validation between customer deployments.
    • \n
    • Turn field observations into improvements in hardware reliability, serviceability, installation time, cost, and product design.
    • \n
    • Help build the systems, processes, and team that will allow LuminX to deploy across hundreds of warehouse doors.
    • \n
    \n

    What we are looking for

    \n
    • \n
    • Two or more years of professional experience in mechanical engineering, mechatronics, robotics, industrial automation, manufacturing engineering, field engineering, or another hands-on hardware role.
    • \n
    • A bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Robotics, or a related discipline—or equivalent practical experience.
    • \n
    • Strong proficiency with a modern 3D CAD platform such as SolidWorks, Onshape, Fusion 360, Creo, or a similar tool.
    • \n
    • Experience designing practical mechanical parts and assemblies that can be manufactured, installed, serviced, and used in real environments.
    • \n
    • Hands-on experience building, assembling, modifying, and troubleshooting electromechanical equipment.
    • \n
    • Comfort working with common hand and power tools, fasteners, connectors, cabling, and basic diagnostic equipment.
    • \n
    • A practical understanding of wiring, low-voltage power, Ethernet, and basic electrical troubleshooting—or the ability to learn these areas quickly.
    • \n
    • Strong systems-level problem-solving skills and the ability to isolate issues when the root cause is not immediately obvious.
    • \n
    • The ability to remain resourceful and composed when solving problems at a customer site with limited time and imperfect information.
    • \n
    • Strong communication skills and the judgment to represent LuminX professionally with customers, contractors, and operating teams.
    • \n
    • A high degree of ownership, urgency, and follow-through.
    • \n
    • Willingness to travel frequently, work in active industrial environments, and occasionally support installations outside normal business hours.
    • \n
    \n

    \n

    \n

    Nice to Have

    \n
    • \n
    • Experience deploying robotics, industrial automation, machine-vision, camera, sensor, or IoT systems.
    • \n
    • Experience with camera positioning, optical alignment, lighting, field-of-view planning, or sensor integration.
    • \n
    • Familiarity with low-volume manufacturing, design for manufacturing and assembly, and supplier management.
    • \n
    • Experience with 3D printing, CNC machining, sheet metal, extrusion systems, or other rapid-fabrication methods.
    • \n
    • Familiarity with ruggedized enclosures, thermal management, vibration, moisture, dust, cable strain relief, or other real-world reliability considerations.
    • \n
    • Experience using multimeters, network testers, or other field diagnostic tools.
    • \n
    • Experience working in warehouses, cold-storage facilities, manufacturing plants, loading docks, or similar industrial environments.
    • \n
    • Familiarity with edge-compute systems, Power over Ethernet, industrial networking, or Linux-based hardware.
    • \n
    \n

    \n

    What Success Looks Like

    \n

Within your first several months, you will be able to independently prepare for and lead a standard LuminX installation, coordinate effectively with the customer, commission the system, and resolve most mechanical or integration issues encountered on-site.

    \n

    \n

Over time, success means more than completing individual installations. You will help ensure that deployments are completed safely, on schedule, and with minimal rework; installation quality remains consistent across different customers and building conditions; recurring field problems become permanent product or process improvements; installation time and support requirements decrease as deployment volume grows; and LuminX hardware becomes easier to manufacture, install, diagnose, service, and scale.

    \n

    \n

    Why LuminX

    \n

You will join at a stage where one motivated engineer can materially shape both the product and the company. You will have broad ownership, work directly with the founders and engineering team, and see your designs operating in real customer environments. Rather than designing isolated components, you will own the full path from an idea in CAD to a system successfully running on a warehouse floor.

    \n

    \n

This role is well suited to someone who wants to become an exceptional hardware and systems engineer by building, deploying, observing, and improving real products—not someone who wants to remain several layers removed from the physical result.
