SUMMARY

Provide Mechanical Engineering skills and conduct mechanical engineering research support as related to the Combat Casualty Care mission. Assist with ongoing research that addresses Medical Simulation and Information Sciences Research Program (MSISRP) and the Combat Casualty Care Research Program (CCCRP) MSISRP technology gaps for the Engineering, Technology, and Automation Combat Research Team (CRT6) to include the Semi-Automated Casualty Care System (SACM), Augmented Reality (AR) Technology for PFC, Smart Tourniquet and Validation of Automated Vascular Access Devices projects.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide professional engineering and scientific research support services involving the design, development, commission, manufacture, operation, maintenance, and disposal of mechanical devices and systems and their equipment and/or components.
  • Ensure mechanical devices and systems and their equipment and/or components function safely, reliably, efficiently, and economically.
  • Develop system concepts and prototypes from military requirements that address MSISRP and CCCRP technology gaps.
  • Work with a cross-functional team to develop specifications, fabricate prototypes, and transition medical device prototypes into manufactured components.
  • Create/review/modify technical drawings, plans, and specifications using computer-aided design (CAD) software (e.g. SolidWorks, Inventor, Revit, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, MicroStation, CATIA, Creo, and Siemens NX).
  • Develop manufacturing processes by designing and modifying equipment for fabricating, building, assembling, and installing components.
  • Generate working prototypes using developed manufacturing processes to include 3D printing, laser cutting and computer numerical control (CNC) milling for beta testing and customer demonstrations.
  • Identify system components or modify products to ensure conformance with engineering design and performance specifications.
  • Identify required performance metrics in accordance with project specifications for developed prototypes.
  • Develop standardized testing platforms for evaluating finished-prototypes and products to determine if performance meets project specifications.
  • Assist with benchtop and animal laboratory work in support of ongoing CRT6 research projects.
  • Contribute to at least two publishable research findings in the form of abstracts/papers/presentations/posters each year.
  • Present findings at lectures, seminars, and scientific conferences.
  • Provide detailed documentation to track project development and design processes.
  • Use the programming languages (Matlab and Python) for data acquisition, processing, and analysis.
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
