Position: Mechanical Engineer II
Location: Onsite in WA - Seattle or New York, NY
Duration: 12+ months Contract
Pay Rate: $50-$55/hour on W2
Job ID: 178283
Job Overview:
We are seeking a Temporary Mechanical Engineer II to support AI Research initiatives. In this role, you will bridge the gap between traditional mechanical engineering and artificial intelligence by helping develop, validate, and stress-test AI tools tailored for physical systems and design analysis. You will collaborate closely with AI researchers to evaluate engineering workflows, define benchmarks, and ensure AI outputs meet rigorous standards. This is a temporary, contract-based role.
Responsibilities:
- Validate AI workflows by evaluating the feasibility, manufacturability, and practical utility of AI-generated mechanical designs, components, and simulations.
- Define tasks and benchmarks by designing, collecting, and validating specific engineering tasks, edge cases, and evaluation metrics for AI models.
- Provide domain expertise across mechanical engineering sub-disciplines, including CAD/CAM, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and structural analysis, to assess model performance.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with AI researchers and stakeholders to translate complex mechanical constraints into actionable feedback for model training.
- Ensure compliance with applicable engineering standards, safety requirements, and documented processes for all deliverables and AI-generated outputs.
Qualifications:- Proficiency with industry-standard CAD and simulation tools (e.g., SolidWorks, Siemens NX, FreeCAD, Autodesk Inventor, CATIA, or Ansys).
- Broad foundational knowledge across mechanical sub-fields, including thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, structural analysis, and manufacturing.
- Experience working in cross-functional environments and effectively communicating technical engineering information to non-domain audiences.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Nice to Have:- Basic scripting skills (e.g., Python, MATLAB) to parse data or interface with AI environments. Advanced software engineering or machine learning expertise is not required.
Education/Experience:- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 3-5+ years of practical, post-graduation mechanical engineering experience.
