Job Description:

Minimum Experience:
7+ years of experience with manufacturing equipment design and installation. This position requires an experienced designer, not a CAD Tech. Candidates must meet these requirements or will not be considered.

Product of Position

  • The Mechanical Engineer will contribute to the development, design, installation, and integration of advanced mechanical equipment for manufacturing processes.

  • This role involves the design, development, and delivery of mechanical equipment and automation solutions to meet performance and reliability criteria.

  • The candidate will leverage their expertise in mechanical design, motion systems, manufacturing assembly techniques, and system integration to drive innovation and continuous improvement while ensuring safety and industry standards compliance.

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders are essential for success in this role.

Ideal Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate is a hands-on mechanical engineer with experience designing, installing, and supporting mechanical equipment in a manufacturing environment. They are comfortable working in the field during equipment build, start-up, and commissioning and can collaborate effectively with engineers, technicians, contractors, vendors, and plant stakeholders. This person is organized, self-directed, and able to balance technical problem-solving with practical execution to keep projects moving safely and efficiently.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and design mechanical components, fixtures, and systems while ensuring compliance with safety and industry standards.

  • Utilize CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Inventor) for detailed design work.

  • Provide hands-on technical input, troubleshooting, and support during equipment installation, start-up, commissioning, and qualification activities.

  • Verify mechanical equipment build, assembly, and layout aProductst drawings and design intent.

  • Coordinate installation plans with safety teams, plant personnel, and other stakeholders.

  • Work with engineers, vendors, and contractors to resolve equipment installation, build, and performance issues.

  • Ensure safe work practices.

  • Update mechanical drawings, equipment documentation, and installation records to reflect field changes and final configurations.

Requirements

  • Experience with mechanical equipment design, installation, start-up, commissioning, and debugging in a high-volume manufacturing environment.

  • Experience implementing mechanical equipment design solutions in a production/manufacturing environment.

  • Skilled in mechanical design tools such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or Inventor for equipment layouts, assemblies, and design updates.

  • Knowledge of machine guarding and safety practices and standards (OSHA, etc.).

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to collaborate effectively across engineering, operations, vendors, and contractors.

  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities.

  • Self-directed with sound judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.

  • Familiarity with adjacent engineering disciplines, including electrical, civil, controls, process, and facilities, to support equipment integration.

Travel Requirements

Travel is expected to support projects at client sites in the Wilmington and Hickory, NC areas.

Work Schedule

Typical 40 hours per week. May require working weekends, holidays, or extended hours to support installation schedules.
