THE ROLE

As a Mechanical Engineering Intern, you will gain hands-on engineering experience supporting the design, development, testing, and validation of Oshkosh vehicles and products.

You'll work alongside engineers and cross-functional teams to apply what you're learning in the classroom to real engineering challenges. Depending on your background, interests, and project assignment, you may gain experience in areas such as mechanical design, product development, vehicle systems, research and development, testing and validation, reliability, or prototype development.

Throughout your internship, you'll have the opportunity to contribute to meaningful engineering work, develop your technical skills, and see how ideas move from design and analysis to testing, manufacturing, and ultimately real-world products.

YOUR IMPACT

As a Mechanical Engineering Intern, your responsibilities may include:

  • Supporting the design and development of vehicle components, systems, and assemblies
  • Creating component and vehicle layouts using CATIA, CREO, or other CAD software
  • Selecting components with consideration for performance, quality, weight, cost, reliability, and manufacturability
  • Performing engineering calculations such as weight distribution, stress analysis, and performance estimations
  • Supporting prototype, pilot, and production builds and providing technical assistance on the assembly floor
  • Performing or assisting with vehicle, system, and component testing
  • Analyzing test results, field data, and warranty information to identify trends and potential failure modes
  • Supporting failure analysis, root-cause investigation, and development of corrective actions
  • Developing and applying mathematical or reliability models to support engineering decisions
  • Establishing test requirements and developing test plans for vehicles, systems, and components
  • Identifying equipment, resources, fixtures, and test apparatus needed to execute testing
  • Supporting the design and development of fixtures and test equipment
  • Coordinating and monitoring testing, including data collection, analysis, and documentation
  • Evaluating test results and developing technical recommendations
  • Collaborating with suppliers, customers, manufacturing teams, and other engineering disciplines to solve technical challenges
  • Communicating project status, test results, findings, and recommendations to engineering teams and project stakeholders

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering field
  • Interest in mechanical design, vehicle systems, product development, testing, or research and development
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with engineering and cross-functional teams
  • Willingness to learn new engineering tools, technologies, and processes
  • Willingness to travel or relocate to Oshkosh, WI for the duration of the summer internship

Summer housing is available to interns whose permanent address is more than 50 miles from their work location.

STANDOUT QUALIFICATIONS

Experience, coursework, or interest in one or more of the following is a plus:

  • Mechanical design or product development
  • CAD or 3D modeling, including CATIA or CREO
  • Vehicle or mechanical systems
  • Statics, dynamics, mechanics of materials, or stress analysis
  • Testing, validation, or experimental methods
  • Data collection and analysis
  • Reliability engineering or failure analysis
  • Root-cause analysis and problem solving
  • Design for manufacturing and assembly
  • Prototype development or hands-on fabrication
  • Manufacturing or assembly environments
  • Engineering clubs, design teams, research, Formula SAE, Baja SAE, robotics, or other hands-on technical projects

Pay Range:

$18.00 - $37.00

The above pay range reflects the minimum and maximum target pay for the position across all U.S. locations. Within this range, individual pay is determined by various factors, including the scope and responsibilities of the role, the candidate's experience, education and skills, as well as the equity of pay among team members in similar positions.
