Opto-Mechanical Engineer II
The Opto-Mechanical Engineer II is responsible for contributing to the design, testing, and development of advanced optical systems. This role focuses on delivering high-quality products that meet rigorous performance standards while supporting innovation, refinement, and production readiness.

Location: Orofino, Idaho (on-site)
Relocation assistance may be available for highly qualified candidates.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop advanced electro-optical devices by integrating optical, mechanical, and electronic components.
  • Design, analyze, and refine optical systems to ensure optimal performance for intended applications.
  • Conduct testing and validation of optical and mechanical systems to ensure compliance with performance and reliability standards.
  • Design and fabricate custom test equipment and fixtures for optical assembly and quality control processes.
  • Establish and maintain precise test setups for accurate measurement and evaluation during production.
  • Collaborate with external manufacturers to design, produce, and troubleshoot components and subassemblies.
  • Provide clear technical specifications, monitor progress, and resolve production challenges to ensure timely delivery.
  • Support production teams by identifying and implementing process improvements in manufacturing and assembly workflows.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of designs, test results, and troubleshooting activities.
  • Stay current with advancements in optical engineering and manufacturing technologies to drive innovation.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, industry standards, and safety regulations.

QualificationsMinimum Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Proficiency in optical design software and CAD tools
  • Strong understanding of optical principles, including ray tracing, wavefront analysis, and coatings
  • Familiarity with optical and electro-optical testing equipment
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes for optical systems, including injection molding, machining, and coatings
  • Understanding of material properties and thermal/environmental testing for optical systems
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

Education
  • Bachelor s degree in Optical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or a related field

Experience
  • 3 5 years of professional experience in optical design and development, including magnified and electro-optical systems
  • Hands-on experience designing and troubleshooting optical and electro-optical assemblies
  • Experience designing and fabricating custom test fixtures and equipment
