What You'll Be DoingJob Scope: The Mechanical Project Engineer provides mechanical engineering services in support of EPC projects. This role focuses on turnaround-driven capital repairs, outage work, and reliability-based modifications, supporting execution from scope development through construction, startup, and return to service. The engineer works within established plant constraints, schedules, and safety requirements while delivering code-compliant, constructible designs aligned with client work processes in Longview, TX.Primary responsibilities will include but not be limited to:Utilize department design and drafting standards.Understand project scope, specifications and design criteria for assigned projects.Provide on-site assistance during startup.Support engineering activities such as stress analysis, construction specifications, material procurement specifications, calculations and piping estimates.Develop conceptual layouts and cost studies to determine the simplest, most efficient approach to solving engineering tasks.Produce estimate level preliminary designs and material take-offs suitable for the level of the estimate being performed on a project.Produce detail design calculations and sketches for materials of construction associated with the project.Assist the drafting group in resolving routine layout and detailing problems.Consult with design leaders from other disciplines.Review and check vendor drawings and other discipline drawings for mechanical input.Produce designs with efficient use of construction materials, emphasizing ease of construction and meeting client expectations.Check calculations made by other engineers to ensure accuracy, conformance to codes, specifications, design criteria and good engineering practice.Advise the senior engineer concerning design or scope changes identified.Assist other engineers in developing and assembling scopes, drawings and specifications into a package enabling mechanical purchase inquiries for procurement of equipment, materials or subcontract pricing.Develop construction specifications.Review fabrication drawings and other construction submittals for conformance to engineering drawings and specifications.Perform fieldwork necessary to gather field data, check tie‑ins and provide construction support.Provide technical guidance to less experienced drafting and engineering personnel in the department.Apply advanced engineering techniques and analysis to complex designs.Develop small work‑sharing packages for interoffice execution support.Ideal BackgroundEducation: Bachelor or Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university is required.Registration: Professional Engineering registration is highly preferred.Experience: Requires 3+ years of relevant industrial experience in mechanical engineering.Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Commitment to safety and safe work practicesFamiliarity with small and large capital project work processes and deliverablesProject ownership and commitment to delivering project objectives on timeStrong interpersonal and communication skillsAbility to develop relationships and work with multiple engineering disciplines to accomplish project objectivesCommitment to supporting organizational successKnowledge of design standards and codesKnowledge, application and specification of piping materialsDevelopment of piping material and material procurement specificationsKnowledge of good design practices for sizing all piping systemsSizing of compressible fluid piping systemsFlexibility and stress analysis of moderately complex piping systemsSpecify criteria for and select specialty piping itemsDesign of moderately complex process and utility piping systemsKnowledge of manual valve sizing, use and applicationKnowledge of application of piping supports and restraintsIdentification of need, application and specification of safety valves and devices to maintain the mechanical integrity of piping systemsIdentification of need, application and specification of steam traps and liquid drainersEstimating piping related construction quantities from conceptual documentsKnowledge of other disciplines deliverable development to ensure coordination of design effortsKnowledge and application of company engineering design and CAD drafting standardsKnowledge of discipline specific methods, practices and techniques required to engineer, design and construct process and manufacturing projectsProficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel and OutlookExcellent communication skills, both verbal and writtenExcellent presentation and virtual team skillsPhysical Requirements:Ability to sit, stand, or walk for long periods of time.Ability to climb ladders and stairs.#LI-BT2 tylerHargrove CultureWe work to create an environment founded on trust, personal integrity, and a “team mentality” so that each person understands the value of their contributions both on a project and company-wide level.
