SALARY RANGE: - Mechanical Engineer I: $70,000-$90,000
- Mechanical Engineer II: $85,000-$110,000
- Mechanical Engineer III: $105,000-$125,000
SUMMARY: Supports the design and analysis of mechanical systems and machinery for U.S. Navy shipboard and waterfront applications. Develops detailed 3D models and assemblies using Autodesk Inventor and participates in a shared, collaborative design environment managed through Autodesk Vault, ensuring version control, data integrity, and seamless coordination across the engineering team. Coordinates interdisciplinary engineering functions and serves as a technical liaison with Delphinus staff, customers, and technical authorities as tasked. Supports shipboard repair and installation teams as needed to investigate, diagnose, and resolve technical issues, and works closely with field personnel to ensure design intent is accurately carried through to execution. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: - Perform shipchecks and waterfront field verification, prepare system specifications, and develop design drawings for the new installation and modification of existing Hull, Mechanical, and Electrical (HM&E) systems and components aboard ship and at waterfront facilities.
- Read, interpret, and troubleshoot HM&E systems using various Ship Installation Drawings (SIDs), including structural/arrangement drawings, electrical schematics, and wiring diagrams.
- Perform calculations, such as fluid flow, stress analysis, shock and vibration, tipping/sliding analysis, weight and center of gravity.
- Revise and prepare HM&E logistics documentation, including but not limited to Technical Manuals and Maintenance Requirements Cards (MRCs).
- Select materials and specify components suitable for shipboard and waterfront service conditions and develop associated Bills of Material (BOMs).
- Apply applicable Navy and industry standards and specifications (e.g., NAVSEA Standard Items, General Specifications for Ships, MIL-STDs, ASME).
- Prepare red-line markups and incorporate as-built and field changes into design drawings and installation documentation.
- Develop installation, inspection, and test procedures, and support system installation, testing, and commissioning aboard ship and at waterfront facilities.
- Provide subject matter expertise to equipment technical assistance teams in the assessment, troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair of shipboard and shore-based equipment, including on-site support at shipyards and waterfront facilities.
- Accomplish assigned engineering tasks and functions efficiently and on time.
- Deliver accurate, high-quality technical products that meet project schedules, applicable standards, and customer requirements.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: - U.S. Citizenship required.
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) or related engineering discipline from an accredited university or college
- Proficient with AutoCAD or 3D modeling software, such as Autodesk Inventor or SolidWorks.
- Strong ability to work independently and within a team to meet project deadlines.
- Demonstrated experience performing at least some of the Key Responsibilities listed above.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, problem-solving, analytical, and organizational skills.
- Must qualify for or currently hold a DoD Secret security clearance.
- Ability to travel up to 20%.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: - Experience in analysis, testing, or design of any of the following Navy HM&E or waterfront systems:
- Fire suppression systems;
- Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC);
- Structural/shock analysis;
- Shock, vibration, and EMI testing;
- Pressure vessel analysis (ASME BPVC);
- Crane lifting, rigging and below-the-hook analysis (ASME B30);
- HVAC and shipboard ventilation systems;
- Heat exchangers and refrigeration/air conditioning (AC&R) plants;
- Hydraulic systems and actuators;
- Replenishment-at-sea (RAS) and weapons handling/elevator systems.
- Familiarity with ISO 9001 Quality Management System processes.
- Experience applying ASME Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) standards (ASME Y14).
- Experience performing shipchecks or field verification in an industrial or waterfront setting.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Primarily office-based, with regular visits to shipyards, waterfront facilities, and customer sites. The role may involve air travel and walking long distances through large industrial facilities. Field verification will require accessing shipboard spaces, climbing ladders, and may involve working in confined areas.
