This position will be located at the NASA Stennis Space Center, Mississippi.
Job Overview
 
Nova Space Solutions (NSS) is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join our Engineering Services Department team at NASA Michoud Assembly Facility, Louisiana. The ideal candidate will assist in the design and analysis of new site or modifications to existing site or manufacturing and production facility systems.
Responsibilities
 
Essential Job Duties:
Develop mechanical designs for new construction projects and modifications to existing facilities and test systems
Prepare engineering plans, specifications, drawings, and construction packages in coordination with project team members
Develop fluid and thermal analysis models, component calibration models, and test data review packages supporting rocket propulsion testing
Participate in the design of fluid subsystems, including conceptual design, thermo-fluid modeling, structural layout, analysis, integration, testing, and mission support
Design and route fluid subsystems, including propellant feed, pressurization, pneumatic, discharge, and capture systems
Design fluid component assemblies, including valves, regulators, pressure vessels, and related equipment
Perform dimensional, thermal, structural, qualification, and integration analyses to evaluate design feasibility and performance
Develop 3D models, assemblies, and detailed drawings for fluid subsystem and structural designs
Support component, subsystem, and system-level testing activities, including test planning, execution, data reduction, and analysis
Develop heat load analyses, flow models, and related engineering calculations for facility systems, including cryogenic and gas systems
Prepare project schedules, cost estimates, and engineering documentation
Review vendor and contractor submittals, Requests for Information (RFIs), and change orders
Perform trade studies and conceptual engineering evaluations supporting site-wide improvements
Monitor and report project status, schedules, and budget performance
Provide engineering support to other departments as needed
Perform other duties as assigned"
Key Responsibilitites:
Support the design, analysis, testing, and implementation of acility and test systems
Develop engineering solutions that support NASA operations, propulsion testing, and site-wide infrastructure improvements
Participate in all phases of project execution, including conceptual design, analysis, procurement support, testing, construction support, and commissioning
Coordinate with project teams, contractors, vendors, and stakeholders to ensure successful project delivery
Monitor project scope, schedule, and cost performance
Support engineering reviews, trade studies, and technical evaluations
Provide engineering support to operations, maintenance, and other departments as required
Job Requirements
 
Mandatory:
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited university
Experience in mechanical design, analysis, and engineering support activities
Working knowledge of fluid system components, including valves, regulators, fittings, and pressure vessels
Knowledge of fabrication, integration processes, and quality control practices related to piping, tubing, and machined components
Proficiency with engineering design and analysis software
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
Ability to communicate effectively with personnel at all levels of the organization
Valid driver's license
Ability to obtain and maintain required NASA site access and credentials
Preferred:
Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related field
Experience supporting NASA, Federal, or government contractor environments
Experience with fluid system design, cryogenic systems, or propulsion test systems
Knowledge of process piping standards (ASME B31.3) and pressure vessel codes (ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code Section VIII)
Experience with aerospace propulsion systems
Experience performing thermo-fluid, structural, or heat transfer analysis
Knowledge of programming languages or engineering software tools such as Visual Basic, FORTRAN, C, or similar
Experience supporting construction projects, facility modifications, or test facility operations
