About the Opportunity We are seeking a licensed Mechanical Engineer (PE) to take ownership of HVAC design for a diverse portfolio of building projects in Roanoke, Virginia. This is a senior-level opportunity for an engineer who enjoys leading projects from initial design through construction administration while working closely with architects and other engineering disciplines. Projects span educational, civic, cultural, commercial, healthcare, transit, and historic renovation environments. You will serve as the licensed mechanical authority for assigned work while mentoring junior engineering and design staff. What You’ll Do · Design HVAC systems and prepare project specifications. · Perform HVAC load calculations and energy modeling. · Own the mechanical scope of projects from design through construction. · Seal drawings and provide senior technical oversight for mechanical work. · Conduct site visits and coordinate with architecture, structural, electrical, and plumbing teams. · Support construction administration, including submittal reviews and responses to RFIs. · Mentor junior engineers and designers and contribute to strong technical standards. What We’re Looking For · Licensed Professional Engineer (Mechanical). Virginia licensure is required; support is available for comity licensure if you are currently licensed in another U.S. jurisdiction. · 7–10 years of professional experience designing HVAC systems for buildings. · Demonstrated ability to seal drawings and manage a project’s mechanical scope from start to finish. · Experience with HVAC load calculation and energy modeling software such as Trane TRACE, Carrier HAP, IES VE, or equivalent. · Working knowledge of COMcheck and energy-code compliance documentation. · Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary design team. · Stable work history required – no more than 2 jobs in the last 5 years. Preferred Experience · AutoCAD and Revit MEP. · K-12, higher education, civic, or institutional projects. · Integrating modern mechanical systems into existing or historic buildings. · LEED accreditation or experience with high-performance building design. Compensation & Benefits · $100,000–$130,000 base salary. · Full relocation package for qualified candidates. · Full benefits package.
