Position Description

Surface Optics Corporation is currently seeking a mechanical engineer with strong design background to grow our multi-spectral imager product line. This candidate will work primarily in the Research and Development group, focusing on the company’s spectral imagers. This candidate will apply mechanical principles to design and fabricate sub-components, complete systems, and tooling and fixturing for the spectral imaging products as required. The candidate will design interfaces between sensor arrays and optical assemblies, enclosures meeting thermal, environmental, regulatory and aesthetic requirements, and support hardware. Additionally, the candidate will be responsible for specifying materials and methods used in the fabrication of R&D systems.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the system design through integration and test
  • Lead the mechanical system design reviews
  • Design and evaluate mechanical and electromechanical systems and products using principles of mechanics, heat transfer, and materials
  • Confirm system and product capabilities by designing feasibility and testing methods
  • Develop mechanical and electromechanical products by studying customer requirements, researching and testing manufacturing and assembly methods and materials, and soliciting observations from operators
  • Assure system and product quality by designing testing methods; testing finished product and system capabilities; confirming fabrication, assembly, and installation processes
  • Provide engineering information by answering questions and requests
  • Maintain product and company reputation by complying with government regulations
  • Work closely and effectively with multi-disciplinary team
  • Contribute to white papers and proposal efforts
  • Support test events and demonstrations
  • Manage suppliers for delivery and negotiate build schedules and costs
  • Evaluate different build techniques, source suppliers to decrease cost
  • Work with QA for QC Checks and verification.
  • Strong understanding of GD&T
  • Manage internal 3D printer
