Job Description: Work on multiple phases of mechanical engineering projects related to commercial buildings. Tasks are associated with projects. The nature of the engineering projects is primarily associated with new and remodel construction with commercial buildings used for healthcare, higher education, municipal, and labs. The sizes of projects range from small remodels of one thousand square feet to large new construction of high rise of several hundred thousand square feet. Mechanical engineering is specifically related to these systems that go into a building: heating, ventilation, air conditioning, plumbing, medical gases, and other process piping systems. Prepare conventional designs and apply standard techniques that are associated with the codes and standards for the specific system and building. Learn the recognized standard practice with any of the systems they are designing. Prepare construction cost estimates and cost forecasting for any of the projects and systems they are designing. Work on projects that have unforeseen conditions and required to use critical thinking skills to develop solutions to unusual problems. Respond to complex engineering challenges that involve forecasting the potential problems of designs. This involves economic factors, maintenance, energy usage, constructability, and the 3-dimentional fit of the systems being designed. Manage daily work by collaborating with others involving other disciplines, other engineers, subconsultants, clients, and manufacturer’s representatives. Review construction submittals and provide clarifications to contractors’ during construction. Produce meeting reports, letters, memorandum, and observation punch lists associated with providing the administrative documentation for the projects in their care.
