\nA Sustaining/Mechanical Engineer working with Lighting Services Inc will develop and design the mechanical aspects of lighting fixtures, transitioning them from prototype to production. This role involves creating and revising designs, performing simulations, specifying and integrating components like LEDs and optics and developing methods of manufacture/bill of materials. He/she will also work with our manufacturing teams to ensure smooth production.
\nResponsibilities -
\nDesign and Development:
\nCreating and refining mechanical designs for lighting products using CAD software (SolidWorks preferred) and utilizing Enterprise Resource Planning software to develop methods of manufacture / bill of materials.
\nComponent Integration:
\nSpecifying and integrating components like LEDs and optics into the overall fixture design.
\nSimulation and Analysis:
\nPerforming simulations to optimize the structural integrity and performance of the lighting products.
\nTesting and Validation:
\nDeveloping and executing test plans to ensure the mechanical, optical, and electrical components meet specifications and quality standards.
\nManufacturing Support:
\nCollaborating with manufacturing teams to ensure a smooth transition from design to production, including creating drawings, documentation, and addressing any production issues.
\nProduct Optimization:
\nWorking to improve product design, performance, and manufacturability throughout the product lifecycle.
\nEssential Skills and Qualifications -
\nMechanical Engineering Fundamentals:
\nA solid understanding of mechanical engineering principles, including design, materials, and manufacturing processes.
\nLighting Knowledge:
\nFamiliarity with lighting principles, including thermal management, optics, and relevant standards (like UL1598 and UL8750).
\nProblem-Solving:
\nAbility to identify and solve technical challenges related to product design and manufacturing.
\nCommunication and Collaboration:
\nEffective communication skills to collaborate with other engineers, manufacturing teams, and potentially with sourcing and sales.
\nProduct Development Experience:
\nExperience in the product development process, from concept to production, is often preferred.
\nHands-on Experience:
\nExperience with prototyping, testing, and working with manufacturing processes.
\nRegulatory Compliance:
\nFamiliarity with regulatory requirements and validation testing methods.
\nSkills Required -
\n• Strong knowledge of track lighting and specification grade products.
\n• Excellent communication skills and confidence presenting technical information.
\n• Ability to create clear, accurate technical content and documentation.
\n• Strong experience with 3D CAD software (SolidWorks is preferred) as well as AutoCAD for drafting.
\n• Highly organized, detail oriented, and comfortable working across teams.
\nEducation and Experience -
\n• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related technical experience.
\n• 3-5 years of experience in lighting, engineering, or a related technical field.
\n• High-energy individual with a positive attitude and team-oriented approach to work.
\nPhysical Requirements -
\n• Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
\n• Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.
\n• Position is ONSITE in Stony Point, NY
