About the Role & Team


The Mechanical Engineer – Utilities Projects supports the Reedy Creek Energy Services Project Management Department in the successful execution of capital and maintenance projects for the utility’s facilities and mechanical systems. This role assists with project planning, design coordination, field support, and documentation to ensure projects are delivered safely, on schedule, and within budget while meeting technical standards and operational needs.


Working with operations and project managers, the Mechanical Engineer – Utilities Projects helps integrate mechanical engineering requirements into project workflows, ensures accurate communication between stakeholders, and supports construction activities from initiation through closeout. The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, and eager to build technical and project delivery skills in a utility environment.


This position reports to the Manager of Projects, Mechanical.


What You Will Do


+ Support the planning, design, and execution of mechanical projects, including HVAC system upgrades, pump and piping installations, boiler and chiller replacements, and related utility mechanical systems improvements.

+ Manage and oversee external design firms to ensure engineering designs meet project requirements, quality standards, schedules, and budget constraints

+ Assist project managers with developing scopes of work, schedules, budgets, and resource plans for assigned projects.

+ Coordinate with engineering, operations, construction crews, and external contractors to ensure project requirements and design intent are clearly understood.

+ Help prepare project documentation including mechanical drawings, specifications, bid packages, submittal reviews, and as-built records.

+ Conduct on-site field visits to verify existing mechanical conditions, support construction activities, and track project progress.

+ Assist with project risk identification and mitigation, including equipment reliability and operational impact assessments.

+ Maintain accurate and organized project files, tracking logs, and records to support project reporting and compliance needs.

+ Provide support for commissioning activities, equipment testing, and project closeout deliverables.

+ Participate in troubleshooting efforts for mechanical systems related to ongoing project work

+ Be available to support projects during off-hours or outside of regular business hours when necessary to ensure timely completion and minimize operational disruptions.


Required Qualifications & Skills


+ Foundational understanding of mechanical systems used in utility or industrial environments, including HVAC, piping, pumps, chillers, boilers, and related equipment.

+ Minimum 2 years of experience in mechanical engineering or mechanical project work.

+ Proficiency with mechanical design and diagnostic tools.

+ Proactive problem-solving skills with the ability to collaborate across multiple teams.

+ Strong organizational and communication skills suited for a project-driven environment.


Preferred Qualifications


+ 5 years of experience in mechanical systems engineering or construction delivery.

+ Registration as a professional engineer (PE) in the State of Florida.

+ Proven ability to negotiate effective decision-making with clients and internal/external service providers across all project phases.


Education


+ Bachelor's Degree in Science in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent) from an ABET-accredited institution is required.

The hiring range for this position in Orlando, FL is $91000 to $121900 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
