Mechanical Engineer, Vehicle & Firmware

This role reports to the Validation Platform infrastructure team supporting the vehicle engineering and firmware engineering organizations with mechanical design, production, and manufacturing process improvement of various form factor fixtures used in component and system level testing. It is the expectation of this role that the candidate has sufficient knowledge and experience to independently guide and improve the mechanical features of our standard test infrastructure and provide hands-on design expertise and leadership toward novel test infrastructure.

• Candidate will help drive current and future mechanical architecture, design, and fabrication of test fixtures and rack-mounted test infrastructure with consideration to manufacturability, thermal performance, cost, etc.
• Review and evaluation of the current HIL infrastructure's mechanical design and production workflow for improvements targeting manufacturability, reliability, uniformity, and cost
• Design and fabricate custom mounting solutions, connector housings, fixture sub-assemblies, etc. using 3D print and/or standard workshop operations
• Create and support a workflow for custom 3D part requests, design, and fabrication
• Provide technical guidance to the technician team on component layout, mounting, airflow considerations, harness routing, and overall fit and finish improvements
• Act as the mechanical design contact generating design drawing packets and coordinating any outside shop or contract manufacturer jobs
• Act as a primary point of contact and shared space owner of the campus Maker Space, supporting incoming mechanical design and fabrication requests
• Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent experience
• 2+ years of aggregate hands-on mechanical system design, drafting, and fabrication experience
• Proficient in workshop fabrication (CNC machining, sheet metal fabrication, laser cutting, etc.)
• Strong 3D print experience (Ex. FDM, SLA, DMLS, Multi Jet Fusion, etc.)
• Proficient in a drafting design suite (Altium, CAD, CATIA, etc.)
• Self-motivated and strongly driven to independently seek out continuous design and process improvements
• Excellent verbal, communication, documentation skills
• Experience working with automated test fixture assembly a plus

Expected Compensation

$91,600 - $195,600/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits

Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
