Description

Why should you join our success story?Â

Based on patented technology developed at MIT, Harvard Medical School and by the Company, Myomo develops and markets the MyoPro product line of lightweight, non-invasive, powered arm braces (orthoses) to restore function in paralyzed or weakened arms and hands of individuals that have suffered a stroke, spinal cord, or nerve injury. (E.g. brachial plexus injury or other neuro-muscular disabilities.) It is the only device that, sensing a patientâs own neurological signals through non-invasive wearable sensors, can restore the ability to use their arms and hands so that they can live independently, increase their quality of life, reduce cost of care, and return to work. Published clinical research shows a clinically significant instantaneous reduction in upper extremity impairment with the MyoPro. Our technology has been referred by leading-edge rehabilitation facilities including Mayo Clinic, Kennedy Krieger Institute, Cleveland Clinic, Loma Linda Medical Center, Massachusetts General Hospital, numerous VA Hospitals, and more. Myomo is headquartered in Burlington, Massachusetts, with sales and clinical professionals across the U.S.

What weâre looking for:

The Mechanical Engineering Lead heads the mechanical development of Myomoâs wearable robotic orthotic platform (the MyoPro), advancing state-of-the-art human-assistive robotics to restore upper-limb function and improve patient independence. This role serves as the functional lead, driving robotic innovation and human-centered wearable solutions.

A primary focus is ensuring that technical decisions directly support improved patient outcomes including functional mobility, comfort, ease of use, and quality of life.

The ideal candidate brings strong project-side skills including the ability to dig in and prioritize needs, requirements, and deliverables - as well as a naturalness in a mentorship and coaching role. Our Mechanical Engineering Lead is strong enough technically to separate noise from signal, knows where and when to dig in and ask further questions, and enjoys guiding the team through design thinking and technical reviews. He/she is a skilled teacher who enjoys identifying areas to contribute to the development of more junior engineers. All that said, our ideal candidate also doesn't seek to delegate 100% of the time. Rather our Mechanical Engineering Lead enjoys utilizing his or her own technical skillset when needed, to keep core development projects moving forward.Â

How You'll Drive Impact:

Robotics & Wearable Product Development

  • Lead mechanical design and development within Myomo's wearable robotic orthotic systems, driving innovation in lightweight structures, actuation integration, and human-robot interaction.
  • Guide optimization of designs for durability, performance, manufacturability, and regulatory compliance - with scalability and design for manufacturability (DFM) in mind.
  • Ensure that designs prioritize comfort, weight optimization, adjustability, and long-term wearability, incorporate clinician and patient feedback into iterative design improvements.
  • Support usability testing and validation efforts to enhance the patient experience.

Team Leadership, Engineering Excellence, & Manufacturing SupportÂ

  • Foster a team culture of excellence, promoting a high-performance design and development environment.
  • Mentor and coach a small team of 5 Mechanical Engineers, conducting rigorous design reviews and technical evaluations as well as fostering a culture of technical excellence and accountability.
  • Allocate resources and manage timelines appropriately in accordance with Project Management, to meet product milestones.
  • Ensure compliance within a medical device design controls environment, supporting V&V as well as production improvement processes as appropriate.
  • Partner with Manufacturing to support design transfer and production scale-up.

What You'll Bring:

  • Bachelorâs degree in Mechanical Engineering or related Engineering discipline.
  • 7+ years' experience in Mechanical Design Engineering with 5+ years of hands-on experience developing complex robotic or mechatronic systems.
  • Some background in regulated medical device or life sciences industries. (Or similar)
  • Advanced proficiency with 3D CAD design (SolidWorks preferred) as well as strong knowledge of rapid prototyping and production manufacturing processes including 3D printing, CNC machining, and injection molding.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary engineering environment.
