Technical Support Position Available
A great opportunity is available for a self-motivated and inquisitive technical support person to join our team at Penn State University's Center for Additive Manufacturing, CIMP-3D, Center for Innovative Material Processing through Direct Digital Deposition at the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL). You will play an important role in assisting engineers and scientists conducting experiments utilizing various Additive Manufacturing (AM) technology.
ARL is an authorized DoD SkillBridge partner and welcomes all transitioning military members to apply.
You will:
- Provide input to and assist with preliminary designs and program path plans (CAD/CAM support)
- Perform fabrication/machining/characterization/mechanical testing of materials in support of projects
- Collaborate with senior engineers and faculty members to support various projects
- Perform various activities regarding the operation and maintenance of metal AM systems
- Participate in documenting process parameters
- Complete established documentation for task procedures and process evaluation, as needed
- Maintain/resupply tools and consumables
- Ensure proper disposal of lab waste and assist with required paperwork/reporting
Required skills/experience areas include:
- Computer Aided Design (CAD)
- CNC/Manual Machining
- Experience interpreting and applying geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T)
- General equipment maintenance and routine preventative maintenance
- Machine shop setting/lab safety practices
- Prior experience working alongside a diverse group of people from a variety of cultures and backgrounds
- Success in a technical environment, where various forms of communication and organizational skills were crucial to be effective
- Demonstrated ability to work through problems, using proper steps to define and formulate ideas to reach a solution
Preferred skills/experience areas include:
- AM exposure
- Metallurgical sample preparation and characterization
- Exposure to operation of industrial robots
- Exposure to laser and/or arc welding
- Ability to obtain and hold a government security clearance
- Military or DoD background
Your working location fully on-site, located in State College, PA.
Minimum Education, Work Experience & Required Certifications
Associate Degree 2+ years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience accepted Required Certifications: None
Salary & Benefits
The salary range for this position, including all possible grades, is $51,000.00 - $74,000.00. THE PROPOSED SALARY RANGE MAY BE IMPACTED BY GEOGRAPHIC DIFFERENTIAL
