Mechanical Construction Engineer (Industrial Facilities)

Location:

Open (Travel Required - US, Canada & Mexico)

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Construction Engineer to support a new industrial construction project. This role focuses specifically on the mechanical aspects of building systems within a manufacturing environment.

The ideal candidate will have strong experience in industrial or manufacturing facility construction, particularly with mechanical systems, HVAC, and cooling systems. This is not a residential or commercial construction role.

Candidates must be comfortable relocating at their own expense and traveling up to 50% across North America.

Key Responsibilities
  • Facilitate mechanical building system startups and commissioning activities.
  • Provide subject matter expertise in reviewing product/equipment submittals, shop drawings, engineering drawings, specifications, and contractor-generated RFIs.
  • Coordinate with contractors and equipment vendors for factory testing, delivery, installation, commissioning, and final handover.
  • Oversee weekend and plant shutdown work with contractors, facilities teams, and manufacturing groups.
  • Conduct continuous work progress inspections and quality confirmations.
  • Support construction administration activities including schedule coordination, weekly meetings, and planned utility outages.
  • Ensure mechanical systems comply with project specifications, quality standards, and applicable codes.
  • Supervise mechanical contractors to ensure adherence to project milestones and coordination requirements.
  • Prepare field engineering reports detailing project status and schedule updates.
  • Provide feedback to improve project technical specifications and standards.
  • Manage daily construction activities and RFI support.
  • Coordinate construction scheduling and communication between field teams and project management.
  • Monitor equipment installation methods to ensure compliance with drawings and specifications.
  • Manage estimates, schedules, materials, and purchase orders as required.
  • Ensure adherence to all safety standards and safe work practices.
Required Qualifications (Must Have)
  • 5-10+ years of experience in industrial construction projects (manufacturing facility experience required).
  • 5+ years of experience in mechanical design.
  • Strong technical knowledge of construction means and methods.
  • Extensive knowledge of building codes and industry standards including:
    • IBC
    • NEC
    • NESC
    • NFPA
    • ASME
    • AMCA
    • ARI
    • AWS
    • ASHRAE
    • FM
  • Proficiency in drawing review and field application.
  • OSHA 30 Certification.
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA safety requirements including:
    • Lock-Out/Tag-Out
    • Electrical Safe Work Practices
    • Control of Energy
    • Arc Flash Safety
  • Ability to manage construction schedules (daily, weekly, monthly).
  • Experience in mechanical system design criteria development.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Project.
  • Ability to work in a large industrial plant environment (standing, walking, stair climbing).
  • Automotive or heavy industrial manufacturing facility experience preferred.
Note: Residential or commercial-only construction experience is not suitable for this role.
