Mechanical HVAC / Plumbing Engineer (Federal)
Location: Hill Air Force Base, UT (Onsite)
Pay: $69.93/hour
Position Type: Contract (Project-Based, Not Contract-to-Hire)
Position Overview
We are seeking a Mechanical HVAC / Plumbing Engineer to provide onsite design review and engineering support for a major federal construction program at Hill Air Force Base. This is a unique opportunity to work on the government/client side of projects rather than in a traditional consulting or design capacity.
In this role, you will support the federal client by reviewing design submissions, participating in review conferences, coordinating with stakeholders, and providing engineering support throughout construction. The position is field-based and requires onsite presence for the duration of the project.
Per diem is provided for qualified travelers, including meals, lodging, and rental car expenses. Limited trips home and designated remote work periods may also be available during the assignment.
What You'll Be Doing
- Review HVAC and plumbing system designs for new and existing federal facilities
- Evaluate drawings, specifications, calculations, and basis of design documents for accuracy, coordination, and code compliance
- Ensure projects comply with applicable federal standards, codes, and regulations
- Support design review meetings, construction meetings, and stakeholder coordination efforts
- Review contractor submittals and respond to Requests for Information (RFIs)
- Coordinate with architects, engineers, contractors, and government representatives
- Assist with project scheduling activities for small to mid-sized projects
- Provide engineering support throughout the construction phase
- Present technical information to clients, contractors, peers, and end users
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Architectural Engineering from an accredited institution
- Minimum 3 years of Mechanical Engineering experience focused on HVAC and/or plumbing systems
- Federal project experience with familiarity in government standards and requirements
- Knowledge of UFCs, MIL-STDs, UFGS, and other federal design criteria
- Strong understanding of building mechanical codes
- Experience with HVAC, plumbing, central plants, boilers, chillers, and commercial/industrial building systems
- Familiarity with Building Automation Systems (BAS) and building controls
- Knowledge of sustainable design principles
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to support construction-phase services, including submittal reviews and RFIs
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret Security Clearance

- Candidates must be born U.S. citizens to meet federal program requirements
- Must be able to pass background screening, drug screening, and motor vehicle record review as required
- Ability to work onsite at Hill Air Force Base for the duration of the project
