Mechanical Inspector

JOB TITLE: Inspector Level 3 (Zeiss CMM Inspector)                                             DATE: 5/19/26

REPORTS TO: Quality Supervisor & Director of Quality                  FLSA:  Non-Exempt

SUMMARY:

An inspector 3 is an experienced Zeiss CMM Inspector. Works on all inspections, especially on 1st piece inspections without need of supervision. Performance excellence at this level along with acquired knowledge, OJT and self-education will lead to promotions to inspector level 4 (CMM Programmer).

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

High School Diploma or GED. Ability to read and write English. Ability to perform basic math. Basic computer skills (email, excel...). Should have an advanced knowledge of GD&T (ASME Y14.5) and be able to read and understand any blueprint. This inspector shall have at least 3 years of mechanical inspection utilizing a Zeiss CMM.

QUALIFICATIONS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to complete each essential duty satisfactorily using a proactive approach.

Written or verbal instructions must be followed meticulously. ALL discrepancies must be reported to lead or supervisor and later reported through our NCR system.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Ø  Inspects the mostcomplex parts and assemblies and may be consulted for               recommendations for process improvements by engineering or management.

Ø   Performs 1st piece and FAIR inspections.

Ø  Can perform any and all inspections without supervision.

Ø  Verifies quality and approves the release of manufactured parts or assemblies based on customer requirements and specifications.

Ø  Accurately follows instructions on travelers.

Ø  Reviews travelers for process errors and suggests improvements.

Ø  Accurately moves completed jobs in KNT system.

Ø  Participates in providing timely feedback to machinists, as appropriate.

Ø  Responds to written and verbal instructions.

Ø  Mentor and coach lower-level inspectors in inspection and CMM techniques.

Ø  Able to modify CMM programs when authorized.

Ø  Able to create basic CMM programs when authorized by the programming supervisor.

    Documentation:

Ø  Completes all required documents and maintains records that pertain to quality       control

Ø  Enforces departmental and company policies, processes and procedures.

Ø  Identifies non-conformances, documents and reports it on our NCR system.          Provides preliminary analysis of cause.

    Skills:

Ø  Able to read and understand all blueprints, detect errors and suggest corrections.

Ø  GD&T expert (Certificate preferred).

Ø  Expert on the use of all inspection tools.

Ø  Excellent knowledge of customer Cosmetic Specs.

Ø  Excellent knowledge of industrial plating specs.

Ø  Able to lead continuous improvement activities

Ø  Proficiently operates Coordinate Measuring Machines (Zeiss CMMs) to perform      inspections.

Ø  Light CMM programming (OJT)

Ø  Serves as a mentor as well as a back-up to the Team Leader or supervisor in           their absence.

Ø  Troubleshoots all levels of problems and makes recommendations for improvements.

    Customer:

Ø  Maintains the security and confidentiality of customers’ products and documentation.

Ø  May work with customers as required.

Ability to apply common sense understanding to develop instructions to guide others with written, oral communication skills.  Ability to deal with problems involving multiple variables in varied situations is required.
