Mechanical Inspector

Essential Job Functions:

Inspect incoming hardware utilizing CMM software and prints/ Cad Models /   inspection plans.  Work from approved inspection plans, engineering drawings, purchase orders, operation sheets and specifications. Use a variety of precision measuring instruments to verify compliance on dimensions, angles, radii, contours, holes, surface finishes, concentricity, hardness, material and plating.

• Checks parts visually for burrs, finish, and any related defects that would be cause for the rejection of parts
• Use a wide variety of precision measuring instruments to verify compliance on: dimensions, angles, radii, contours, holes, surface finish, concentricity, hardness, plating, etc.
• Should be proficient with sine plate, comparators, profile-meter and surface plate layout using height gages.
• Work involves simple to complex setups on surface plates using height gauge, gauge blocks, sine plates and indicators.
• Maintain daily logs and initiate non-conforming documentation for parts not meeting requirements.

Required Skills:

• Minimum 3-5 years’ experience with the inspection of aircraft components.
• Generating RMA, NCR, and CAR
• Must be able to inspect all of the above mentioned dimensions.
• Competence to read and interpret documents such as safety policies, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
• Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
• Ability to effectively speak after individuals and groups of employees within the organization
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one or two step instructions
• Basic knowledge of AS9100 requirements
• May have to perform calibration on gages needed for production
• Utilizes shop math in all dimensional checking as well as precision measuring devices.
• Experience interpreting & inspecting GD&T features (preferred)
• Experience working in an aerospace company
• Experience working with a CMM
• Follows inspection procedure for each inspection.
• Follows all procedures such as signing off each step on the router.
• Keeping up with calibration log and calibrating employees’ and CIM inspection equipment
• High knowledge of inspection equipment (Caliper, Micrometer, Height gauge, Optical Comparator and CMM).
• Demonstrated expertise in Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerance (GD&T).
• Proficient in operating CMMs
• Solid technical knowledge and hands-on experience with measurement tools and equipment.
