Commercial Mechanical Journeyman
We are seeking a hands-on Commercial Mechanical Journeyman to support commercial building projects within 30 miles of Mobile, AL. This role is for someone with strong mechanical aptitude who can install, troubleshoot, repair, and support a broad range of commercial building systems.
The best-fit candidate has commercial mechanical experience, strong troubleshooting instincts, and the ability to work across mechanical rooms, equipment, piping, ductwork, pumps, fans, motors, valves, controls-adjacent systems, and other building infrastructure.
Location: Within 30 miles of Mobile, AL
Schedule: Field construction schedule; overtime may be available based on project needs
Work Setting: Primarily onsite at commercial construction jobsites, with some service opportunities
Role Type: Contract to Hire with potential to be hired on full time based on skill set and candidate needs

Responsibilities
- Perform commercial mechanical installation, troubleshooting, repair, maintenance, and startup support
- Work on commercial building mechanical systems, mechanical rooms, rooftop equipment, pumps, motors, fans, belts, bearings, valves, piping, ductwork, supports, hangers, equipment pads, and related building infrastructure
- Install and support mechanical equipment and accessories across commercial jobsites
- Troubleshoot mechanical issues and identify practical corrective actions
- Assist with equipment startup, testing, balancing, commissioning, and punch list completion
- Read and interpret blueprints, specifications, submittals, and shop drawings
- Coordinate daily work with Mechanical Superintendents, Project Managers, and other trades
- Maintain accurate material awareness and communicate shortages or field needs
- Follow OSHA, company, customer, and jobsite safety requirements
- Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas
- Support apprentices and less-experienced field employees through hands-on mentorship
- Model strong craftsmanship, reliability, professionalism, and jobsite conduct
Qualifications
- 4+ years of commercial or industrial mechanical experience preferred
- Strong mechanical troubleshooting ability across commercial building systems
- Experience with mechanical equipment installation, piping, ductwork, supports, rigging support, equipment setting, repairs, and maintenance
- Ability to read construction drawings, specifications, and shop drawings
- Strong problem-solving skills and willingness to work across different mechanical scopes
- Valid driver’s license required
- Willingness to travel occasionally, including possible overnight stays
- Ability to work outdoors, climb ladders/scaffolding/rooftops/aerial lifts, lift up to 75 pounds, and work in mechanical rooms, rooftops, attics, crawlspaces, and active jobsites
Preferred Qualifications
- HVAC installation, service, or troubleshooting experience or exposure
- BAS, controls, or low-voltage integration exposure
- EPA 608 certification
- OSHA 10 certification
- Experience mentoring apprentices or junior field employees
- Experience with commercial facilities, healthcare, education, municipal, aviation, or industrial building environments
