Job Description


The Mechanical Maintenance Technician supports a heavy industrial manufacturing facility by troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining complex production machinery and support systems. This role focuses on ensuring reliable operation of hydraulic and pneumatic equipment, furnaces, rolling mills, and related mechanical systems through both corrective and preventive maintenance. The technician works in a fast-paced, high-temperature environment and plays a critical role in keeping production equipment safe, efficient, and available.


Responsibilities


+ Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair production machinery in a manufacturing environment to minimize downtime and maintain safe, reliable operation.

+ Inspect, maintain, and repair hydraulic systems, including high-pressure hydraulics used throughout rolling and slitting operations.

+ Service and maintain pneumatic systems used across rolling and slitting operations, ensuring proper function and safety.

+ Maintain and repair mechanical equipment such as melting and holding furnaces, casting lines, hot and cold rolling mills, annealing furnaces, and slitters.

+ Perform routine maintenance on gas, diesel, and electric industrial trucks to keep material handling equipment in optimal condition.

+ Maintain and repair pumps, valves, cylinders, accumulators, and filtration systems, ensuring proper flow, pressure, and system cleanliness.

+ Perform precision mechanical work including equipment alignment, torqueing, rigging, and mechanical rebuilds.

+ Troubleshoot and maintain cooling towers, chillers, and lubrication systems to support stable production operations.

+ Conduct preventive maintenance activities to identify and address issues before they cause equipment failure.

+ Use mechanical repair, fabrication, and welding skills when needed to restore or improve equipment performance.

+ Follow all safety procedures and plant guidelines while working around high-speed equipment, furnaces, and heavy industrial machinery.

+ Document maintenance work performed and communicate equipment status and issues to relevant team members.


Essential Skills


+ Proven experience as a mechanical maintenance technician in a manufacturing or heavy industrial environment.

+ Strong troubleshooting skills for mechanical production machinery and support systems.

+ Hands-on experience with hydraulic systems, including high-pressure hydraulics used in rolling and slitting operations.

+ Hands-on experience with pneumatic systems used in industrial processes.

+ Mechanical maintenance experience with melting and holding furnaces, casting lines, hot and cold rolling mills, annealing furnaces, and slitters.

+ Ability to perform routine maintenance and repair on gas, diesel, and electric industrial trucks.

+ Proficiency in maintaining pumps, valves, cylinders, accumulators, and filtration systems.

+ Ability to perform precision mechanical work such as alignment, torqueing, rigging, and mechanical rebuilds.

+ Experience troubleshooting and maintaining cooling towers, chillers, and lubrication systems.

+ Mechanical maintenance experience with a focus on hydraulics and industrial equipment.

+ Ability to perform preventive maintenance and respond to mechanical issues in a timely manner.

+ Capability to work safely in a hot, noisy, and fast-paced heavy industrial environment.


Additional Skills & Qualifications


+ Experience with fabrication work to support equipment repair and modification.

+ Welding skills for repair and maintenance of industrial machinery and structures.

+ Comfort working with high-speed equipment and large industrial machinery.

+ Ability to read and follow maintenance procedures and plant safety guidelines.

+ Willingness to work a rotating schedule and adjust to changing shift patterns.

Work Environment


This role operates in a heavy industrial manufacturing plant on a 21-day rotating schedule, so candidates must be comfortable working rotating shifts. The facility is not temperature controlled; mills and furnaces significantly increase ambient temperatures, especially in the summer. During cooler months, plant temperatures are typically in the 60s, while summer conditions can resemble a steel mill, extrusion plant, or paper mill, with temperatures reaching the low 100s. The environment includes heat, noise, and high-speed equipment, requiring consistent use of appropriate personal protective equipment. The plant layout is extensive and spread out, with each department in separate or attached buildings, and some areas may have metal shavings on the floor, particularly in slitting departments. Large fans and increased hydration breaks support comfort during hotter months. Due to the nature of the operations, water bottles and cans are not allowed on-site, and butane lighters, e-cigarettes, and vaping canisters are prohibited. Uniforms and PPE are provided to support safety and compliance with plant requirements.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Huntingdon, TN.


Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $36.21 - $36.21/hr.


Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
