BASIC FUNCTION

Based at our Arizona production facility, the Mechanical Maintenance Technician is responsible for ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of plant processing equipment.
 

This role supports a high-performing team operating in a mineral transformation environment producing materials for industrial, food-grade, and pharmaceutical applications. The position requires strong mechanical expertise, versatility, and hands-on experience across rotating equipment, pneumatic systems, and packaging operations within a heavy industrial setting.
 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Inspect, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical equipment across the plant, including conveyors, blowers, gearboxes, centrifuges, and material handling systems
  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance to ensure optimal equipment performance and minimize downtime
  • Execute advanced mechanical rebuilds and equipment retrofits, including alignment, installation, and fabrication work
  • Support operations involving pneumatic conveying systems, packaging equipment, and bulk material processing
  • Read and interpret mechanical drawings, schematics, and technical manuals to assemble and disassemble equipment
  • Use the plant maintenance system to manage work orders, track progress, and document completed work accurately
  • Collaborate with operations, maintenance, and supply chain teams to coordinate maintenance activities and ensure parts availability
  • Support external contractors and equipment suppliers during inspections, repairs, and maintenance projects
  • Safely operate mobile equipment and lifting devices in accordance with site procedures
  • Respond to equipment breakdowns, including outside regular working hours as required, ensuring timely and effective resolution
  • Maintain clean, safe, and organized work areas at all times

  • Perform all work in compliance with health and safety standards, environmental requirements, and quality systems
  • Contribute to a strong safety culture with a focus on hazard identification and risk prevention
  • Ensure compliance with applicable standards supporting the production of industrial, food-grade, and pharmaceutical products
     

QUALIFICATIONS

Education

  • Post-secondary training in mechanical maintenance, industrial mechanics, or a related skilled trade (trade school, technical college, or apprenticeship) strongly preferred
  • Relevant certifications in industrial maintenance, millwright, or similar trades considered an asset
     

Experience

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in industrial mechanical maintenance
  • Experience in heavy industrial environments such as mining, mineral processing, cement, or manufacturing preferred
  • Proven experience with pneumatic systems, rotating equipment, and bulk material handling
  • Experience with packaging equipment and automated production lines is an asset

Knowledge and Skills

  • Strong mechanical aptitude with hands-on troubleshooting and repair capabilities
  • Experience in maintenance of pumps, conveyors, compressors, and drive systems
  • Good understanding of pneumatic conveying systems and industrial processing equipment
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and mechanical schematics
  • Basic fabrication and welding capabilities considered an asset
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong communication skills and ability to coordinate effectively across departments
