Collaborative Design. Technical Excellence. Community Impact.

Are you a mechanical professional who loves the 'puzzle' of a complex building system? Thompson & Litton is seeking a self-motivated Mechanical Project Engineer to join our multidisciplinary team. Whether you are calculating high-efficiency HVAC loads or designing life safety fire protection systems, you'll be part of a collaborative group that values your creative input and your professional growth.

The Role: From Concept to Completion As part of our mechanical engineering group, you will be involved in the full scope of design for commercial, industrial, and institutional projects. You will:

  • Design and Draft: Lead the production of comprehensive mechanical design packages, including HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection plans.
  • Analyze and Optimize: Perform critical calculations for HVAC loads, energy usage, and life-cycle costs to provide sustainable solutions.
  • Collaborate in the Field: Conduct site visits for renovations and additions, gathering the 'ground-truth' data needed for successful designs.
  • Lead Project Delivery: Generate project specifications, written reports, and system condition assessments.
  • Support Construction: Act as a bridge during the construction phase, managing RFIs, submittal reviews, and field assessments.

What You Bring

  • Experience: 5+ years of experience in mechanical system design (HVAC, Plumbing, and Fire Protection) within commercial or institutional sectors.
  • Licensure & Education: Active Professional Engineer (PE) license required (or ability to obtain via reciprocity upon hire).
  • Technical Software: Proficiency in—or the strong ability and willingness to learn—AutoCAD, Revit, and HAP (Carrier).
  • Technical Knowledge: A strong working knowledge of mechanical codes and standards (including ICC, ASHRAE, and NFPA).
  • Project Skills: A proven ability to deliver projects on time and on budget while communicating effectively with diverse project teams.

The T&L Advantage

  • Employee-Owned (ESOP): Because T&L is 100% employee-owned, you aren't just an employee—you are a stakeholder. You'll directly benefit from the firm's growth, stability, and collective success.
  • Professional Development: We invest heavily in your career longevity. Whether it's pursuing advanced certifications, attending industry conferences, or taking leadership training, we provide the resources to help you grow.
  • Flexible Work Environment: We work where the work needs us—in the office, from home, in the field, and in the community. We offer great flexible hours to support your life outside of work.
  • Mentorship Culture: We are looking for people who are passionate about encouraging others. At T&L, your mentorship of junior staff is as valued as your technical design skills.
  • Broad Project Scope: From K-12 schools to industrial facilities, you will work on a wide variety of building types and delivery methods.

If you're excited about making an impact and want to join an award-winning team, we want to hear from you!
