We are seeking a detail-oriented Mechanical Quality Inspector to ensure manufactured components, assemblies, and finished products meet engineering, customer, and Quality Management System requirements. This is a hands-on position working closely with Quality, Engineering, and Production to perform dimensional inspections, identify nonconforming material, and maintain accurate quality documentation.

The ideal candidate has experience in a manufacturing and welding environment, understands mechanical drawings and tolerances, and is comfortable using precision measurement equipment including FARO technology and CMM/metrology software.
Key Responsibilities Mechanical & Dimensional Inspection

  • Perform incoming, receiving, in-process, and final inspections of mechanical components, assemblies, and subassemblies.

  • Inspect products against engineering drawings, 3D models, specifications, and applicable quality requirements.

  • Verify dimensions, tolerances, and surface finishes using calipers, micrometers, height gauges, indicators, and other precision measurement equipment.

  • Perform dimensional inspections using FARO scanning/measurement equipment.

  • Develop and execute dimensional inspection plans.

  • Perform random quality checks and in-process inspections directly on the manufacturing floor.

  • Monitor shop floor work orders to identify upcoming inspection requirements and prioritize workload.

Nonconformance & Quality Control

  • Segregate and control nonconforming material to prevent unintended use or shipment.

  • Communicate nonconformances to Quality leadership and appropriate manufacturing personnel.

  • Support Material Review Board (MRB) activities and product disposition.

  • Assist with troubleshooting mechanical quality issues and verifying corrective actions.

  • Support compliance with established ISO/AS Quality Management System requirements.
Measurement Equipment & Metrology

  • Verify inspection and measurement equipment is within calibration requirements before use.

  • Identify needs for new, replacement, or additional inspection tooling.

  • Utilize PolyWorks or comparable CMM/metrology software for inspection setup, measurement, and analysis.

  • Interpret measurement results and clearly communicate findings to Quality, Engineering, and Production.
Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • 2+ years of Quality Inspection experience, preferably within a manufacturing, machining, fabrication, or welding environment.

  • Experience working within an ISO and/or AS-certified Quality Management System.

  • Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of manufacturing processes.

  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, CAD models, P&IDs, specifications, and technical documentation.

  • Understanding of machining tolerances and dimensional inspection requirements.

  • Hands-on experience with precision measurement equipment, including calipers, micrometers, height gauges, and related inspection tools.

  • Knowledge of First Article Inspection requirements.

  • Ability to accurately identify, document, and communicate nonconformances.

  • Strong Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint skills.

  • Excellent attention to detail, organization, and problem-solving abilities.

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while collaborating effectively with Production, Engineering, and Quality teams.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with FARO scanning arms or portable CMM equipment.

  • Experience with PolyWorks programming and operation or comparable CMM/metrology software.

  • Gas turbine, power generation, and/or rotating equipment experience.

  • Previous exposure to NDT processes, such as PT, UT, or FPI.

  • Experience supporting MRB activities.

  • Experience conducting or supporting supplier and customer inspections.
Ideal Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate is a hands-on mechanical inspector who is comfortable working directly on the manufacturing floor. This person can move confidently between a drawing and the actual part, determine whether dimensions and tolerances meet requirements, document discrepancies, and communicate effectively with Quality, Engineering, and Production.

Success in this role requires someone who is precise, organized, comfortable working independently, and willing to take ownership of inspection priorities while maintaining high quality and safety standards.
Work Environment
This position works in both office and manufacturing environments and requires significant time on the shop floor. The employee may be exposed to welding, machining, grinding and cutting operations, moving equipment, forklifts, noise, temperature variations, metal dust, fumes, sparks, and other typical industrial conditions. Appropriate PPE is required based on the work area.

The position requires walking, standing, lifting, carrying, bending, climbing, kneeling, crouching, and other physical activities associated with manufacturing inspection. Some travel to supplier, customer, or installation sites may be required.
