Mechanical Reliability Technician — Chemical Manufacturing

Location: Princeton, NJ | Schedule: 1st Shift

Imagine starting your day kitting up with PPE, walking the process floor, and listening for that subtle change in pitch from a centrifugal pump that tells you it needs attention. You trace a line on a P&ID, open a panel to check a limit switch, then swap out a worn valve seat before it impacts production. By lunch, you’re rebuilding a diaphragm pump; by afternoon, you’re aligning a motor on a mixer and signing off on a new actuated valve install. That’s a typical day for our next Mechanical Reliability Technician.

What you’ll do

• Own daily upkeep of process hardware: plant piping, valves, gauges, air and product lines across the chemical manufacturing facility.
• Tackle mechanical and, based on your background, select electrical tasks—servicing solenoid valves, limit switches, and actuated valves on equipment and building systems.
• Diagnose and resolve issues on rotating and powered assets: pumps, mixers, pneumatic and electrically driven machinery.
• Disassemble, repair, and reassemble equipment: diaphragm, rotary, gear, and centrifugal pumps; manual valves; pneumatic mixers; vessels.
• Partner with teammates, coordinate outside contractors, and help ensure safe, efficient work execution.
• Install and commission new capital equipment; welding, fabrication, and industrial piping skills are a plus.

What you’ll bring

• High school diploma or GED, plus two years of technical school training—or equivalent hands‑on experience in a related trade.
• 3–5 years of maintenance work in chemical, food, or beverage manufacturing. Extra credit for mechanical, machining, electrical, pipefitting, or welding proficiency.
• Comfort reading engineering drawings and procedures; able to communicate clearly with peers, leadership, and partners.
• Strong troubleshooting mindset: gather data, analyze results, make recommendations, and document projects. Computer skills (MS Word, Excel) are a plus.
• Physical readiness to stand 75–85% of the shift; climb ladders and stairs up to 2–3 stories; and consistently use required PPE.
• Ability to perform all essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation.

Compensation and benefits

Salary $32.00 - $36.00. The wage range reflects what dsm-firmenich expects to pay the selected candidate, with individual pay based on job‑related skills, experience, education/training, and primary work location.
