Job Description:
  • We are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer III to support the design and development of precision electromechanical systems for advanced instrumentation platforms. This role focuses on mechanical subsystem design, electronics packaging, mechanisms, housings, and platform-level assemblies, while collaborating closely with electrical and systems engineers throughout the product development lifecycle.
  • The ideal candidate has experience designing integrated electromechanical systems—not solely manufacturing tooling or fixture design—and has successfully owned mechanical designs from concept through production release. This includes requirements definition, concept development, detailed design, design reviews, documentation, prototype builds, assembly, testing, and engineering release.
  • Candidates with strong experience in electronics packaging, mechanical platform design, and mechanical integration involving pneumatics, vacuum systems, cooling systems, water cooling, or fluid/piping distribution will be highly valued.
Responsibilities:
  • Design and develop mechanical subsystems, platform assemblies, and precision electromechanical components.
  • Design mechanical packaging solutions for electronic assemblies and integrated systems.
  • Create concepts, perform detailed mechanical design, and develop manufacturing-ready solutions.
  • Design mechanisms, housings, sheet metal components, structural frames, and tooling.
  • Collaborate with electrical engineers to integrate electronics into mechanical assemblies.
  • Develop engineering drawings, BOMs, and release documentation.
  • Lead or participate in requirements reviews, concept reviews, and detailed design reviews.
  • Coordinate prototype fabrication, supplier quotations, procurement requests, assembly, and system testing.
  • Support prototype builds, design validation, troubleshooting, and engineering change activities.
  • Perform basic Finite Element Analysis (FEA) for stiffness, structural integrity, and vibration evaluation when required.
Experience:
  • Candidates should demonstrate experience designing integrated electromechanical systems, not solely manufacturing tooling or fixture design.
  • 5+ years of recent, hands-on mechanical product design experience.
  • Strong proficiency with SolidWorks for 3D modeling and detailed drawings.
  • Experience designing electromechanical products from concept through production release.
  • Experience with:
    • Electronics packaging
    • Mechanical subsystem design
    • Precision mechanisms
    • Housings and structural assemblies
    • Sheet metal and machined components
  • Strong understanding of engineering drawings, GD&T, documentation, and product release processes.
  • Experience supporting prototype assembly and testing.
  • Excellent cross-functional collaboration and communication skills
Skillsets:
  • Mechanical design
  • Finite Element Analysis (FEA)
  • Tolerance analysis and GD&T
  • Electronics Packaging
Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
